cycling 1:23:00 [2] 25.65 mi (3:14 / mi)

Work commute with Brad. On the new bike! We left early because Brad had a 10:00 meeting. Morning rush hour traffic is probably not the best choice for the first spin on a new machine, but so it was. Everything was mostly fine mechanically. I felt like my weight was too far forward. It could either be that my old geometry had me back and I just need to get used to this, or it could mean the frame is too small. I have the saddle positioned properly relative to the crank, and its all the way back as far as it will go. The stem may be a little short. Threw the chain inside twice coming home. Need to adjust the spring tensions in the shifters I think, as I have the stops set properly. Definately noticed the light weight and extra bottom-end range. Climbing is sweet.

road run 47:42 [3] 11.22 km (4:15 / km)

Work commute inbounds. run-train-run. The run was decent, but my errands along the way were a comedy of errors. Needed cash for the train. ATM only gave 20's, which the train machines won't take. First bike shop was closed, so continued past train station to second bike shop (which was closed). Third bike shop (REI) didn't have the part I needed. Bought some granola bars at a grocery to break the 20 and finally got on a train at the second stop...almost halfway to work.

cycling 1:18:00 [3] 25.65 mi (3:02 / mi)

Work commute on the old bike. Still some more drivetrain work to do on the new one. Also need a replacement chain pin, which is proving difficult to procure.

trail run 10:00 [3] 2.2 km (4:33 / km)

warm-up - mix of trail and terrain, some with yesterday's map.

orienteering race 1:34:01 [4] *** 13.95 km (6:44 / km)

COK Day 2, Blue. Even more map weirdness...some crazy distortions like at The Willows in Philly. Lots of seemingly random "out-of-bounds" areas marked on the map. Did a "Superman" over a cable gate on a road while reading the map. There's no more rude awakening in O than reading the map one second, and having a mouth full of leaves the next.

Ran across Vlad near 13, then split a couple of controls with him. In particular 15. We left 14 together contouring on the line. I climbed up to a clearing on a spur, then contoured out on trail to road, taking road/trail all the way around to the r.o. and straight down. Didn't see Vlad until I was leaving at the edge of the circle...he was coming in the same way I had, but I think he may have stayed on the line/contour. Curious to know his route. Met him again at 16 after I took a left route, lost contact, regained, and then spent some time checking every pair of boulders (there were several) down the Rhodo-choked reentrant until finally getting to the pair that had a flag between them - seeing Vlad and a couple of others coming in from the right. We ran the road together 2/3 of the way to 17, then in a clearing we exited at different angles and Vlad said "Place your bets, folks" or something to that effect, and I didn't see him again. I went more right to cut through the narrowest dark green, then took the trail to the clearing bend, then straight on the line down the reentrant.
