XC skiing 1:41:00 [2] 7.8 km (12:57 / km)

Jackson XC from 4-6 pm. Parked at Christmas Farm and did John, Henry, the Wave, Eagle Fields, and Wildcat Valley to Alice's Alley, then return straight back. Two inches of new wet snow over lots of old groomed snow, no bare spots. Area is officially closed, but they are still grooming for free skiing. Fine, if slow at 45 F (red klister); better conditions than mid-winter some years.

Biking 45:00 [2] 7.0 mi (6:26 / mi) +30m 6:21 / mi

To Martin's Point Healthcare and back for annual "wellness visit". Sidewalk and bike lane on Rt 1 much nicer than yesterday. Doctor says I'm healthy. A few birding stops along the way, including 8 green-winged teal and three gadwall for my HPYL.

Biking 1:13:00 [2] 14.28 mi (5:07 / mi) +145m 4:57 / mi

Biked to Bradbury State Park for a day of hawk watching. Rt 9 from Falmouth to Cumberland is very busy at 8:30 am, and has zero shoulder - not fun. Rest of the way up Rt 9 is fine, but hilly. Probably won't bike there again. Not too good a hawk day, with NW wind giving me a stiff neck. Only 6 species and most birds far way except for one red-shoulder,and 4 bald eagles in a kettle over the mountain.

Biking 1:06:00 [2] 14.1 mi (4:41 / mi) +90m 4:35 / mi

A little tail wind on return.

XC skiing 20:00 [1] 1.04 mi (19:14 / mi)

My April "ski around the yard" made the sixth calendar month in a row!!! Had to cross a few two-foot bare spots and wander all around on what snow is left. Rock hard snow just beginning to warm in the sun - schedule meant I had to do this at 8:30 am. Skied pretty cautiously - slipping sideways even after I put on my steel-edge skis.

Probaly not much hope that I can extend this into May, but if there is a patch of snow left, I will stand in skis on it and take a picture.

Running - road or flat warm up/down 5:00 [2] 0.6 km (8:20 / km)

Carrying snowshoes.

Running - snowshoes (GPSing) 1:33:00 [2] 4.13 km (22:31 / km)

GPSing in Ridgewood. In the first bit, in relatively open woods with clearings, the snow was so soft - postholing on my running snowshoes - that I very nearly bagged the attempt. But the snow (0-12 inches) was firmer in the mixed hemlock forest so I persevered and it got better (firmer), so most of the time I was only sinking in 2-3 inches. But with occasional breakthroughs into water, and some bare ground. Mapped over 60 fixed points - each one requiring stopping, pushing buttons, and writing a line of notes. So average speed was pretty slow, even though I ran between points. A good workout though. Lovely sunny and almost 50F.
It is now over four months with continuous snow cover. I'm ready for running on bare ground again, but it will be a while.

Running - road or flat warm up/down 3:43 [2] 0.6 km (6:12 / km)

Back home.

Note

Many hours of fixing and rearranging - moving in, phase 2. A good workout moving boxes or things in boxes from one box to another, and moving hanging stuff like chairs, bike rack, stepladder from one place to another, etc, etc. Tired at the end so it must have been some exercise.
