Orienteering race (BUCS 2017) 1:07:00 [3]
I ran second leg for our A team, but made the most frustratingly annoying rookie error in the world. Upon un-rolling the map, I located the lowest control (control 17) on the map and thought 'that's really odd, I guess Julie's map was 1-16' and then ran straight off to control 17. I ran the loop well, navigated with limited errors aaaaand long story short--I finished leg two first out the all the unis...because THE MAP WAS TWO-SIDED.
So I ran the first side and then side two again. Logically I should have figured this out right away, but as it was only the second time I had done a relay it didn't even cross my mind as an option, so I just set off to be as speedily as I could for the team. The second attempt at the course was interesting, the terrain was fun but at times I got distracted by being annoyed at my mistake. The event was in a forest with a lot of knolls with pits on the top of them, lots of brambles and lots of mud--really fun to navigate through!
