ACT League long distance at Picaree Hill. Legs really tired today, could feel on the way to #1 that I was going to suffer and I struggled a lot on the hills. That said, I had a decent run. I tried to stick to the straight line and minimise climb. Did that okay: Craney ran 500m shorter than me again but given it was 10km it was only 1/2 of the difference between our routes yesterday. Not sure I have the skills, and definitely not the confidence, to run as straight as he does. Biggest error was a 1min parallel error at #3 that I picked up pretty quickly but only after dropping down a few contours, and bits and pieces at a few controls but nothing bigger than 20s; maybe dropped a couple of min all up.

Realised only after I finished that the map was 1:15K not 1:10K ... so used to running longs at local events on 1:10K. Explains why I thought the contour features were under-mapped anyway!

End of a big week for me, looking forward to a rest tomorrow.

ACT League middle distance at Cooleman Ridge. Enjoyable course today; aside from being 1km+ short it was a good course setting effort. Also could have been made a bit harder by using some of the more complex rock for controls. My legs were feeling pretty tired today, some soreness in the hammies too, so the goal was to get in some navigation and terrain running but try to save myself for the next day's long distance. Cruised around pretty nicely, nailed everything, although chose an unnecessary left-hand route on #1 and a couple of changes of route mid-leg which resulted in a few extra metres distance. Took a wide-left terrain route for #2, not the optimal route but I was trying to get that terrain running in without smashing my legs on hills. Finished nearly 7min behind Craney who ran 500m shorter overall with 50m more climb.

Lunch run with Craney up Black Mtn via the ALJ memorial track. I pushed a bit hard through the last technical part of the ALJ and then ran out of steam on the fire trail. I had forgotten how steep that bit is!

A bit of chat about the shenanigans at the House, of course, and got back not long after the result.
