Lap of the Lake Burley Griffin with my 6ft training buddy Nick. Pre-run plan was to go slow to make the distance - it was Nick's longest run ever and the longest I've run in many years. We started at Black Mtn Peninsula and ran anti-clockwise to complete Nick's least favourite part first. From the outset we struggled to follow our plan and our pace kept creeping higher but it felt easy and we didn't worry too much. I started to feel pretty tired at the Jerrabomberra Wetlands and as we turned we discovered that there was a westerly. The final 10km was a struggle; had to stop briefly to stretch my right glute which was causing hip flexor soreness. Very happy to get back to the car and have a good long run under my belt.

It was a good pacing lesson for long races, which I have very limited experience with. Despite not trying to 'race' and despite how easy the early 4min/km pace felt, I was so smashed at the end I'm sure I couldn't have finished it any quicker. Maybe slower pace early would have been a better overall strategy but who knows.

5, 4, 3, 2, 1 session around Narrabundah Hill with 2 then 1 minute jog recovery. Didn't push so hard, more like tempo effort. I was working hard enough though that I got a stitch and couldn't do the final effort. I made up for that with bad timing in the first few adding up to another minute.

Slow run around Stromlo. Felt tired and slow. Nice to run in the morning again.

The weather and my cold have both improved to the point where a run was on the cards. Felt much better than on Sat the one remaining symptom was an ache in my teeth on every foot fall.
