Note
(sick)

Was feeling noticeably better this morning so took advantage of some free time to check out Rainbow Forest for the event I'm setting at the end of November. I quickly discovered this was a bad idea as I couldn't even maintain an easy jog and I was dying in the heat. I gave up after 30m, sat in the shade for a while and then walked home with a few stops when the exertion made me feel like falling over. Stupid virus.

Note
(sick)

Came down with something during the day and now I feel dizzy and exhausted with a sore back. I've probably caught what Ewan had earlier in the week.

Running 45:00 [3] 7.0 km (6:26 / km)
shoes: Nike Free 5.0 (grey/green)

Lunchtime run from KG down to GP. Had planned to some intervals but right foot was feeling tight and during the first interval it complained so I stopped and plodded the rest of the run.

Cycling (Comnmute) 35:00 [3] 13.5 km (23.1 kph) +85m

Legs feeling mostly better now just hammies still feeling a little odd but that's probably just some tightness I'll need roll and stretch out. Nice ride to work but was disappointed to find nearly all the food for the QUT Ride to Work breakfast was gone. Did manage an iced coffee and some fruit, and scored a new water bottle, which is good because I haven't had one to lose for a while. Feeling stronger on the bike, can't explain why but I'm not complaining.

(rest day)

Pretty sore today. I can already hear Anna: 'What did you expect if you don't do any training?' :)

Running race 39:25 [5] 10.0 km (3:57 / km) +50m 3:51 / km

The family and I had come up to Toowoomba for a weekend with the in-laws and I discovered that the Toowoomba Marathon was on today including a 10km race. Had planned do some training this weekend anyway so decided the 10km would fit pretty well. After jogging from my in-laws to USQ for the race start, I was feeling pretty good and probably started a little too quickly as a result. Made up a few places in the first 1.5km and was running alongside another guy. We were slowly reeling in a kid in front and I reckon running in the top 10. Unfortunately, just before 3km we turned into a reasonably strong headwind and headed up a short rise and despite trying to tuck in and get out of the wind it really drained me. It was about then that the usual thought of 'geez, I hate running races' popped into my head and a few seconds later I was off the back of a little group that had formed with some guys who'd come up from behind. I went through 4km in 15min. I slowly dropped away from the group and eventually got passed by another young guy. 5-8km was predominantly up hill and into a headwind and was a bit of a struggle; went through 7km in 26min. The headwind got really vicious just before a little turnaround at about 8.8km but then we had a quick run with a tailwind and then no wind before the finish.

Time isn't too precise but I'm pretty sure I got in just under 39min which I'm pleased with. About 1min quicker than my last 10km race in 2007. Probably has a lot to do with my disciplined taper this week ;) I reckon some good training would quickly knock it down a couple of minutes.

Running warm up/down 18:00 [3] 3.0 km (6:00 / km)
shoes: Nike Free 5.0 (grey/green)

10 PM

Note

Checked the official results and unfortunately was 30s slower than I thought but that's still a PB.

Running 1:05:00 [3] 10.5 km (6:11 / km) +200m 5:39 / km
shoes: Adidas Supernova Cushion 7

Cyclones not so long run. Ran with Olly and Rachel before Rachel decided we weren't going far enough and added a Coot-tha summit. Wet day but not too unpleasant.

Cycling (Commute) 37:00 [3] 13.5 km (21.9 kph) +80m

Ride in to work. Legs a bit weary after yesterday's ascent of Coot-tha but feeling fairly good anyway. Right ITB not 100%; I need to give it some more love.

Cycling (Commute) 37:00 [3] 13.5 km (21.9 kph) +125m

A slog home with heavy legs. Got home before the rain which was nice.

Running 50:00 [3] 8.0 km (6:15 / km) +220m 5:30 / km
shoes: Adidas Supernova Control 9

First of many planned early morning runs, this one a fairly direct slog to the top of Coot-tha and back. Perfect morning for it. The best bit was that I didn't wake Ewan when I left as feared. Discovered that a benefit of the early morning run is that I'm wide awake at 6:15am when Ewan gets up which is much preferrable to being jumped on while half-asleep. Also found $10 on the ground so a great morning :)

Soccer race 40:00 [3]

Big semi-final between the Library and ITS which finished in 3-3 and then by a Library golden goal for victory. The game was lengthened from the regular 15 min per half to 25 min per half. I tried to pace myself but was pretty buggered at the end. Copped some damage too: a nasty bloody blister on left little toe and two sore ankles.
