Cycling (Commute) 1:10:00 [3] 27.0 km (23.1 kph) +225m

Ran out of juice on the way home so crawled up Burbong St.

Cycling (Commute) 1:10:00 [3] 27.0 km (23.1 kph) +235m

Usual commute. I passed a guy on a bike which had a rear wheel so buckled the bike was wobbling from side to side as he rode. Saw Biddy running at Anzac Park on the way home. Strong up Burbong today.

Orienteering race 38:00 [5] 6.9 km (5:30 / km)
shoes: Asics DS Trainer 13

Club relays. After originally not being selected in Toohey Forests' top ten teams I was promoted to #8. Woohoo, thanks TF. I was teamed with Geoff Peck who unfortunately is injured and Brooke Pye. Our strategy was for me to the long stuff and a sprint, Brooke would do the street-o, and Geoff would do the final sprint. It worked well and we came 3rd, helping TF to its first club championship in 10 years. My runs were pretty ordinary (the time is a guess), I was stuffed after the first 3km course and struggled in the heat again. I think I was 2nd home on the A long course from the mass start but 1st of those who didn't MP at the 1st control. It was sweet having a dunk in the pool at the ACU afterwards.

I had an interesting chat with Clare Leung about people cheating at the world masters. Apparently a number of people were observed by officials on-course holding their hands over their numbers while deliberately crossing OOB or uncrossable features! Stupid me but I thought this type of crap didn't exist in orienteering.

Note
(sick)

Cold is getting better but throat is still getting worse. I'm beginning to suspect tonsilitis.

Note
(sick)

Feeling a little better today but still ordinary.

Monday Oct 19, 2009 #

Note
(sick)

I had a shitty night's sleep last night and feel pretty miserable today with sore throat, drippy nose, and a cough that feels like it's shredding my lungs.

Sunday Oct 18, 2009 #

Note
(sick)

Worse again, it's developing into a cold.

Throat feeling worse today.

Cycling (Commute) 1:10:00 [3] 27.0 km (23.1 kph) +225m

Commute. Felt good and pretty strong today despite throat feeling a bit scratchy and developing a cough. Charged up Burbong St tonight.

Note
(rest day)

No motivation today ... just can't bring myself to consider a run ... because ... well ... I found out yesterday that I'm not even good enough to be selected in any of the top ten Toohey Forest club relay teams! I'm shattered :(

Cycling (Commute) 35:00 [3] 13.5 km (23.1 kph) +85m

To work. Decided once I'd started that I didn't really feel like riding.

Cycling (Commute) 33:00 [3] 13.5 km (24.5 kph) +145m

Cycling (Commute) 33:00 [3] 13.5 km (24.5 kph) +85m

Commute in. Set a record but I don't know what it is. Left at or more likely after 8.50 and was at work 9.23.

Running tempo 15:00 [3] 3.7 km (4:03 / km)
shoes: Asics DS Trainer 13

From work to Race Elements for a massage. First about 12months and was good but painful.

Cycling (Commute) 35:00 [3] 13.5 km (23.1 kph) +135m

Home.

Running tempo 20:00 [4] 5.0 km (4:00 / km) +50m 3:49 / km
shoes: Nike Free 5.0 (grey/green)

Lunchtime tempo from QUT KG through Herston and back. Boring route with lots of pavement and crossing busy roads. Felt decent which was nice as I was beginning to think my fitness was a severe downward spiral.

Running warm up/down 15:00 [3] 1.6 km (9:22 / km)
shoes: Nike Free 5.0 (grey/green)

Cycling (Commute) 37:00 [3] 13.5 km (21.9 kph) +85m

Commute in. Felt really ordinary most of the way, like I was about to hit wall pretty soon. This wasn't helped by a headwind up the hill by the freeway.

Cycling 36:00 [3] 13.5 km (22.5 kph) +145m

Home. Felt pretty weak again. Got blown away by a couple of dudes on fancy bikes up the hill along the freeway.

Note
(sick)

I had a shit night's sleep last night and now I have a headache again ... it's all a bit unusual ...

Sunday Oct 4, 2009 #

Running 31:00 [3] 5.3 km (5:51 / km) +150m 5:07 / km
shoes: Adidas Supernova Control 9

Short morning run, I'm trying to run more frequently. Felt pretty wobbly and unfamiliar with running when I started and though I settled into a rythym, I was bugged by a tight right glute which gave an achey accompaniment to the whole run.

Saturday Oct 3, 2009 #

Strength & Conditioning 30:00 [3]

Back to some squats and calf drops followed by stretching.

Thursday Oct 1, 2009 #

Note
(sick)

Headache slowly improving. I figure it's an after-effect of the virus I had last weekend.
