Cycling (Commute) 35:00 [3] 13.5 km (23.1 kph) +85m

Ride in to work. Took it fairly easy but with a few random surges to catch lights, etc. Enjoyed it.

Cycling (Commute) 35:00 [3] 13.5 km (23.1 kph) +145m

Home. Hot and pushed harder. Good ride.

Running (Commute) 45:00 [3] 9.8 km (4:36 / km) +80m 4:25 / km
shoes: Adidas Supernova Cushion 7

Ran from home to Roma St station via the Centenary Fwy bike path, Sylvan Rd, and the river with a backpack on. Was beginning to regret the choice to run as laboured up to the top of Chapel Hill and again up beside the Fwy but it was nice to be out and, hey, it's running and I've been sorely lacking some of that.

It was nice to see that total trip time from home to QUT was 1hr, which is 1/2 hour less than it took me yesterday on the train!

Cycling (Commute) 38:00 [3] 13.5 km (21.3 kph) +85m

In to work. A bit nervous about how my knee would go after last week but it held up ok. Walked up the final hill into Kelvin Grove to give it a rest as it seemed to be getting a little sore.

Cycling (Commute) 35:00 [4] 13.5 km (23.1 kph) +145m

Ride home. The paths were very busy this afternoon, Brisbanites everywhere were out to enjoy the hot weather. The path along the river was jam-packed but that didn't seem to bother some guys on their bikes. Got in a pack after leaving the river and push hard from there home where I was beginning to wish I'd had more lunch.

Running long 1:35:00 [2] 15.0 km (6:20 / km)
shoes: Asics DS Trainer 13

Long run with Thor, John, Anna, and Clare from Clare's though I started from my place and ran to Clare's. Nice easy jog through Coot-tha forest park, didn't climb the Mount for once but did do Quail Trail which is a bit of a grind and then some steep pinches further to the west. Cardiovascular system was doing fine but my hip flexors, quads and ITBs were suffering. I need to do some serious rolling and stretching and probably have a proper massage.

Cycling (Commute) 1:20:00 [3] 27.0 km (20.3 kph) +230m

Got bike back from the shop yesterday so figure I'd ride in but failed to tighten seat clamp after adjusting the height and had to ride in sitting practically on the crossbar. To add insult to injury, or more accurately, injury to insult, right knee started giving me grief pretty early on and I had trouble on the hills. Had to walk a few of the hills on the way home.

Knee was pretty bad, hoping it was just an aggravated ITB but not sure, will have to see how it pans out over the next couple of days. Piked on Cyclones ints which I'd planned to do for the first time in ages because of the knee :(

Cycling 32:00 [1]
ahr:108 max:110

8 x 4/4 @ 100W aka 4min chatting intervals with 4min boredom rests. Last REIT protocol test in the fat study. Found out my V02Max was 58.4 which is far better than the 49 I got on the treadmill 2 years ago; still waiting on the other stats.

Cycling (Commute) 38:00 [3] 13.5 km (21.3 kph) +85m

Cruisey ride to work on a sensational day. Brisbane does seem to have good weather.

Cycling (Commute) 38:00 [3] 13.5 km (21.3 kph) +145m

Commute home and I was pushing it to be home on time for Ewan to be dropped off by his carer so was trying to ride faster than this morning. Unfortunately, the rear derailleur cable broke and I was stuck in two of the highest gears which wasn't much fun trying to ride into Chapel Hill.

Cycling intervals 32:00 [3]

8 x 4/4 @ 200W. Another REIT session, harder than Monday but not by much. The worst thing (apart from the perpetual finger pricking) is that I forgot to stuff myself full of food before the fasting period began and I was more hungry than usual.

Running warm up/down 7:00 [2] 1.0 km (7:00 / km)

Warm down on the treadmill.

Cycling 32:00 [3]
ahr:130 max:140

8 x 4/4 at 150W. REIT exercise protocol as part of the fat oxidation study. Boredom punctuated by finger pricks. At least the girl doing the study is interesting to talk to during the rests.

Note
(rest day)

Feeling pretty tired today. Actually, I feel like I have a hangover from the long run, fuzzy head and all. Knees a sore on the inside and the ITB. Muscles are sore everywhere. Guess I was a bit undercooked for yesterday's adventure!

Running long 2:18:00 [3] 24.0 km (5:45 / km) +725m 5:00 / km
shoes: Adidas Supernova Cushion 7

Beautiful long trail run from Binna Burra to O'Reillys with Blair, Olly, and James Sheldon. We followed the Border track apart from a long division along the Coormera Track. I was worried about how I was going to cope with this given general lack of running but it was about as good as I'd hoped and certainly not as bad as I'd feared. Hip flexors started to get sore after about 10km and progessively worsened as we climbed. I started to feel my ITBs near the end too and they go quite sore after. Great run anyway - thanks to Blair for suggesting it and, Anna and Clare for the organisation.
