Strength & Conditioning 20:00 [3]

Another (running) training fail but managed to get off my butt and do some strength: 3 x 12 single leg calf raises, 2 x clock squats, 3 x 15 single leg squats, 2 x clock squats, 2 x 15 single leg squats, 3 x 1min achilles.

Running long 1:35:00 [2] 17.8 km (5:20 / km) +500m 4:41 / km
shoes: Asics DS Trainer 13

Long run from my place after helping Megan out the door with Ewan to go and pick up her Italian friend from the airport. Did Anzac Park, Simpsons Falls, SSG, Honeyeater, home. Felt strong at the beginning and seemed to breeze up all the little hills between here and Simpsons Falls. It got harder from there but didn't really struggle at any point.

Running intervals 12:58 [5] 3.5 km (3:42 / km) +210m 2:51 / km
shoes: Asics Hyperspeed 4

7 x 500m with 600m jog recovery on the road at Anzac Park with a bit of a hill in it, with Lance, Wendy and Anna. Started a bit slow and wasn't paying close attention to the times but then realised I was running about 2min and I should have been doing them a bit quicker so gave it some herbs thereafter. It felt like a spew wasn't too far off on the last couple. Left calf is still feeling tight from the Mousdash. Times: ~2, ~2, 1:45, 1:45, 1:50, 1:50, 1:48

Running warm up/down 35:00 [1] 5.6 km (6:15 / km)
shoes: Asics Hyperspeed 4

Warm up and down plus recoveries.

Running hills 1:00 [5]
shoes: Asics Hyperspeed 4

6 x short steep hill sprints of about 8s with 2 min rest.
7 PM

Strength & Conditioning 15:00 [3]

Nominally for developing core strength but really an excuse for Anna to show off.

Running long 1:25:00 [2] 14.6 km (5:49 / km) +430m 5:04 / km
shoes: Adidas Supernova Control 9

Long run from Clare's with a large and irregular group including my father and Clare's neighbour. Did the Boscombe Loop with little bit extra up on South Boundary while I was trying to catch up with Mat and Rachel. Very muggy. Breakie after was all about Su Yan's fabulous frittata.

Easy run with Dad from home. Left calf still sore.

Wednesday Nov 14, 2012 #

Note
(rest day)

Almost not sore. Would have done something easy if it had fit in the rest of the day.

Running race (Mousdash) 43:12 [4] 10.5 km (4:07 / km) +300m 3:36 / km
shoes: Asics DS Trainer 13

My first go at the Mousdash, 13th overall and 7th in 30-39 but it was a weaker field than some years. I'm very happy with the time though - it's only 7s slower thank Kieran's best and 33s slower than Clive's.

The race starts at the Botanic Gardens right at the bottom of the hill on Mt Coot-tha Rd and heads straight up the main road past the lookout and continuing along Sir Samuel Griffith Dr past the tv stations, down the hill and back to the Botanic Gardens, finishing just inside the car park.

I started from about 6 rows back and started slowly. By turn off Mt Coot-tha Rd, was already making my way through the pack. I realised shortly after this that the pace was about the same as Saturday morning run pace, i.e., relatively easy. I picked the pace up a bit as the incline allowed and continued to make places. At 3km I was running with the woman who appeared to be the 2nd place woman and since the winning woman last year was 42min, I figured this was a good place to be. If skinny was equivalent to fit, then this woman was FIT. Along the rolling hills around the top, I slowly edged in front of the woman and another guy, and seemed be closing in on the group with the 1st girl. The hills were starting to feel tough.

I took a cautious approach to the big descent, trying to increase my pace without killing my quads. I managed to overtake a couple of guys and creep closer to 1st-Place Woman. Only one human cannonball with a jangling pocket full of change went past me here - I had to look around because he sounded like a horde rather than just one guy.

At the bottom of the hill I ran past Wendy who gave me a great cheer and I concentrated on closing with 1st Place Woman. At the final hill, a stocky guy that I'd passed on the descent came through and I put on a big effort to keep pace. I probably overdid it a little and was stuffed at the top, and let 1st Place Woman go past (I'd overtaken her on the hill). And that was pretty much how we finished. Good fun.

Running long 1:30:00 [1] 13.5 km (6:40 / km) +350m 5:54 / km
shoes: Adidas Supernova Control 9

Easy long run from Anna's up Toilet Block and down Frosties. I was trying to take it easy but it's hard to avoid working with a big hill to climb. Possibly should have not run to rest up for Mousdash but meh ...

Running 30:00 [1] 5.0 km (6:00 / km) +60m 5:40 / km

Running 35:00 [2] 8.5 km (4:07 / km)
shoes: Nike Free 3.0 v3

Steady run from KG down to the river, up a bit and then down to GP for a work thing. Hot. Windy. Not terribly fun.

Running 42:00 [2] 7.8 km (5:23 / km) +295m 4:32 / km
shoes: Asics DS Trainer 13

Standard Coot-tha up and down. Feeling a bit stronger. Did some dynamic stretches after a short warm-up - I feel much better after the run if I do them.

Running long 2:00:00 [2] 20.7 km (5:48 / km) +600m 5:04 / km
shoes: Adidas Supernova Control 9

Long run on my lonesome on an unusual route, partly to check out the back part of Sir Samuel Griffith Dr prior to Mousdash (which I haven't registered for yet but probably will): up Honeyeater, follow SSG Dr, down Paten Rd Track to do the warm-up loop near Wendy's and Lance's, then back up the hill via Simson's Falls. My body was feeling alright but a bit crotchety. Hip flexors got pretty sore on the second ascent.
4 PM

Swimming 15:00 [1]
ahr:200

Recovery swim at UQ pool. Turned out to be hard work because I was tired from running and I because I'm not very good. I think I managed 3 laps but I can't sort out my pacing/breathing and need to stop after 1/3 of a lap of freestyle to catch my breath.
