Orienteering warm up/down 10:55 [3] ***
shoes: Mizuno Wave Elixir 8

Sprint qualifier for the season-ending Cyclones double-header sprint race. Cruised around but felt slow and like I probably didn't have another gear. On the plus side, pretty smooth except for one control where I should have read the control description but didn't and lost about 30s.

Orienteering race 11:00 [4] 2.4 km (4:35 / km)
shoes: Asics Hyperspeed 4

4 rounds of sprint match racing at Ferny Grove State School. I lined up against a young junior, Danny, then CBL and Winnie Oakhill before crashing out (literally) against Pekka. Races were short and to the point, very much like knockout O-intervals. I cruised through the first three but lost my head a bit in the fourth racing against Oliver Crosato, who seemed to have the same course, and the technique slipped away until I got caught at the 2nd last by an uncrossable fence and lost about 30s. Then I slipped taking a corner at speed and scraped some skin off my butt and a fair bit off the heel of my left hand. Good fun racing though, unforgiving of any mistakes. We should make it an annual affair.

Running (Commute) 33:00 [2] 6.4 km (5:09 / km) +90m 4:49 / km
shoes: Mizuno Wave Elixir 8

I enjoyed yesterday's run so much I thought I would do it again. I managed to avoid most of the rain.

Run from work to school for a rendezvous with the rest of the family. The evil new backpack was not so evil today thanks to the t-shirt I was wearing to ward it off and shortened the straps, which seemed to cause it to bounce less. Used Strava to record my run which was fun.

This was my first real run in my new Mizunos and I'm pretty happy with them, I got the size right which is win.

Running 32:00 [2] 7.0 km (4:34 / km) +100m 4:16 / km
shoes: Adidas Supernova Control 9

Lunchtime run from work. Tried one of my usual routes but it has been broken by a damaged bridge over Enoggera Ck. Decided to try to push down the south bank towards Ballymore but the flat grassy bank quickly turned into a dirt trail whose coefficient of friction was rapidly trending toward zero. I bailed on this up to the road, ran through the Ballymore complex then back around the golf course.

Orienteering race 19:07 [3] 3.2 km (5:58 / km)
shoes: VJ Sticky

Cyclones sprint series at Yeronga. Started sluggishly off almost no warm-up. Good direction through the open spaces was required in the early controls but managed to muck up my exit from 4 (aka 5) and ran a bit wide but it didn't seem to cost me more than 10s. Proceeded to have a nice clean run through all the technical stuff. This was the aim of the run for me so it was very nice to execute it. Felt terribly slow though!

Ride home. It became obvious after I arrived at work this morning that I had a cold so it was a pretty miserable ride home.

Cycling 35:00 [3] 13.8 km (23.7 kph) +190m

Replaced my flat and rode home after an intense day in front the computer trying to finish a project. Good to have a break and totally smashed my legs.

Ride to work. Legs quite tired after a big Saturday but it was still nice to ride to work for the first time in ages. Ride home spoiled by a flat on departure and my failure to pack a pump ...

Running long 1:25:00 [1] 12.7 km (6:42 / km) +400m 5:47 / km
(injured) shoes: Adidas Supernova Control 9

Long run from Anna's. Pretty slow today which was fine as this was the first run since straining my calf last weekend. It held up well during the run up to the summit so took the slightly longer route with Anna.

Orienteering race 16:18 [3] 2.5 km (6:31 / km)
(injured) shoes: Asics Hyperspeed 4

Cyclones Sprint Series at St Peters. A promising event marred by some unavoidable hiccups and some avoidable ones. After struggling to get off the start line because I wasn't told (or perhaps just didn't hear) that there was a pre-start I had a reasonable run finishing 1:20 behind Aaron and 7s behind a well-credentialed Halden runner. I made a couple of decent mistakes and I was unhappy with how scrappy it all felt - bad flow and planning. On the positive side, my calf held up pretty well again. It was just starting to feel a little tight at the end of the race.
