Over to Kangaroo Flat to check sites for the O event on Saturday, then out to Sandhurst Res and back home through KG and SG. Faugh-a-Ballagh Rd has been graded, soon it will be a highway

PSEUD-O race (Urban Enduro) 2:00:28 [4] ** 23.6 km (5:06 / km) +340m 4:46 / km
ahr:143 max:161 shoes: Nike Zoom

Keely, Birchy and I went to Melb, and took Troy along to reintroduce him to the sport. From the start, TDH, Birchy and Keely left Bruce, Blair and I behind.
Bruce took a different route, and also the lead, and I caught up to Birchy, who then decided to drop out. Made a mistake soon after, and Blair slipped by. Up front TDH got back onto Bruce, and Keely dropped of then called it a day.
I struggled around to come in 4th, but couldn't break 2 hrs ;-(

MTB 23:50 [3] 9.0 km (2:39 / km)
shoes: Teva #2

Rode over to the Primary Schools Challenge at Kangaroo Flat gardens and home again, Measured exactly 4.5 k each way

ORIENTEERING ◪ race (Bendigo Club Relays) 17:44 [5] 3.62 km (4:54 / km)
shoes: Teva #2

Another new area, just to the east of Wildflower drive, and for something different, it had yellow contour lines, and tracks were white.

Fun event, same as last week, had to race Keely. Got into the map well, 2 felt like it was in the wrong place, cos as I headed for 9, I hit the fence corner. Bit of a hesitation at 11, allowed James Robertson and Keely to get away, but got James as he had to get 7 on the way home.

Knew I was never going to out run Keely on the long leg from 15>home, gave a lot of consideration to doing the loop in the other direction, that way I may have had a chance if he slipped up at 3

ORIENTEERING ◪ race (Vic Long Champs) 1:49:02 [5] **** 16.4 km (6:39 / km) +625m 5:35 / km
ahr:155 max:169 spiked:28/35c shoes: Teva #2

What a cracker of a course set by Wozza on the one of the best Gully /spur areas in Australia.

Was set up in a bit of a Bendigo train, Sweppes, then Dave , Me, Big Ev and Keely. Got 1 and 2 well, and was in the lead (-:. Didn't get the next 3 route choices right, and made a mistake on 4 as well. Saw Dave and Sweppes at 8, then error at 10 trying to be clever.

Made it through to 16, when Keely showed up, must have kicked me into gear, as I was 2nd on the next route choice, 17 (wide and to the Sth of 12 & 11) Only Keely bet me, but as he was hanging on and trying to catch me, so I will take the credit.

Caught up to Dave and Sweppes at 18, and it was full steam ahead for the Bendigo train as we hit the best bit of Gold Mining/ Erosion terrain. Slowed up a little at 23, as all the young uns slowed up a little, to see what the old bloke was going to do on the big route choice leg. Kept it straight, and as we approched 24, the 1st sign of cracking appeared, as Sweppes finally dropped of, and Dave started to struggle.

25, then 26, and Dave was back, then as we left 27, Dave cracked, once we got to the road, I said to Keely, we have got to make him hurt, so go with our strength, keep it to the road. Not to bad a idea, as Keely got another fastest time on 29 as we ran the road to the north, went slightly different ways to 30, as Keely tried to drop me, which he succeeded in doing, but we meet up again at 30, 31 was sort of clean, and 32 I really started to hurt, as Keely went for it on the way to 33.

Saw him again at 34, that he missed slightly, so came in only 30 secs down. Good race by Keely, once he gets fit, he will be hard to run with.

ORIENTEERING ◪ (Vic Mid Champs) 38:40 [3] 5.99 km (6:27 / km) +190m 5:34 / km
ahr:160 max:172 shoes: Silva O shoes

Missed the 1st slightly, then got into it. Course was a little simple for a Middle distance, and steep as well. Was surprised with how well I ran, seeing that I saw my physio on the Wednesday about my calf that I hurt at the Oz relays, and he told me to take it easy, and not to run, advice I chose to ignore.

MTB 31:10 [3] 11.3 km (2:45 / km)

MTB 1:07:20 [3] 23.25 km (2:54 / km) +270m 2:44 / km
shoes: Nike Bike shoes #1

Tried a different part of forest today, out pass the Uni then Wildflower, OTH and home. Bit steeper than the Sandhurst ride which is why it was not as enjoyable

ORIENTEERING ◪ 1:08:25 [4] 8.14 km (8:24 / km) +127m 7:48 / km
shoes: Silva O shoes

Simon got pass me on the way to 6, and Blair caught me at 18, were we then went on to make mistakes at the next 2 controls. Enjoyed the area very much. Running speed still affected by not getting enough air into the lungs, give it time and they will clear up. Calf was manageable today, little bit sore, but looking a whole lot better for next weekend

Saturday Oct 11, 2008 #

RUN warm up/down 10:00 [3] 1.8 km (5:33 / km)
shoes: Silva O shoes

At Cantara, ran out towards the beach and back with Blair and Bruce

ORIENTEERING ◪ (SA Sprint Champs) 15:44 [5] 3.31 km (4:45 / km)
shoes: Silva O shoes

Got of to a good start, had Blair on the 1st 3, then lost bad time at 6 when I ran towards 14 then lost more time at the wrong thicket, Blair got in touch at 12, then he over ran the 2nd last, allowing me to beat him to the finish line.

Calf playing up, will have to treat it with TLC if I want to get through tomorrow

MTB 1:06:43 [3] 23.12 km (2:53 / km) +180m 2:47 / km

Short days driving today, home by lunch, so got time to go for a ride, up to Sandhurst Res, along the channel and home via Hunts Gap, will see if the lack of training this week helps me tomorrow

Thursday Oct 9, 2008 #

Note

Had hoped to get home earlier this week, to get some stuff organised but after a 15 hr day in the truck, it was dark when I finished. Glad I dont fill in my Log book, other wise the RTA would be most interested

Sunday Oct 5, 2008 #

ROAD BIKE 29:00 [2] 14.1 km (2:03 / km)
shoes: Nike Bike shoes #1

1st training of any type for the last week.
Took it easy and kept it short

Note

Went to the O event at Sedgwick, but decided not to run as still recovering from last week. 1st real workout for the Bendigo SI set, was a nice day as well, was hard not to go for a trot
