Pawtuckaway hike/jog with Reed. South Mtn via Shaw trail - the long way, so not too many random visitors. The weather was SO NICE. Reed did great.

strength 1:00:00 [4]

Did the 7-minute workout app 6 times in a row and then finished off with a couple sets of pushups. Tough! These HIIT-type workouts really make the time fly.

Geocaching in Ft. Rock with Rob and Reed. We found 11 total. Reed found 2. It wasn't too bad out there. Cooler weather. Bugs were only bad at the one swamp cache that we couldn't find. Mostly off trail - half of the time the maps wouldn't load so we just beelined to the next point.
Reed's analysis "Geocaching magnifies the frustrating part of orienteering (luck) while minimizing the fun part (navigation).'

Note

The Lockdown

Basically a voluntary DNF on this. I did 7/8 stages but didn't do any photo documentation of the required landmarks. Happy that this inspired us to check out some new terrain and investigate geocaching but ultimately decided to increase family time for the end of holiday weekend rather than leaving again to go do the final leg. In retrospect, planning this as one big thing (like Strong Machine, MA duo did), rather than fitting it in around normal life, would have made it a more motivating event.

road bike 4:05:14 [3] 61.12 mi (15.0 mph) +1645ft
shoes: Boone

Low-moderate pace roadie. Mostly in Maine. Some messing around in Portsmouth afterward to get to 4 hrs. Hot day. Cool temps returning tomorrow, yay!

Paddle 5:30:00 [3] 12.5 mi (2.3 mph)

Stashed our bikes in the woods off of the rail trail to a small forest beach I found while scouting for UNE 2018. Inflated the raft and put on wetsuits (it was 40F), dry-bagged the other stuff and we were off downriver in the tiny craft. It was fun and interesting at first. It was a mixture of medium-speed river and rapids. Unfortunately, with a totally dry week preceding this, the river had dropped a lot, making it very scratchy and bony over almost all off the rapids. One notable exception was a section of a couple of big drops leading to a chaotic yard sale. The later miles of the river had a large number of woody obstructions requiring an exit/drag/portage/get situated again in tiny boat and hope you don't have to do it again in 50 yards (you do). With all the delays and fussing, it took way longer than expected. Neither of us could find a position to paddle from that was comfortable for more than 5 minutes, which just worsened with time. Gah, this was rough. The upside was seeing this riparian perspective of our area. Tons of birds out there.

MTB 2:03:49 [3] 20.1 mi (9.7 mph) +1417ft

First bite of The Lockdown. With Rob. 3:30 AM meet up.
Drove to Lamprey river takeout, left cars there, and set off on bikes to a point 12+ miles upstream. First part of route was decommissioned Dimond Hill Rd, the first mile of which was largely submerged. After that it was a mix of gravel, pavement and a little Pawtuckaway trail. I liked the ride. Some new stuff for me and no one was out but us.
