Orienteering race (Middle Earth Sprint) 19:00 [5] *** 4.24 km (4:29 / km) +69m 4:09 / km
spiked:23/24c shoes: Asics Kayano 22 (Black)

Fast Sprint around Rotorua town, the lake, some bush and thermal pools. Good run for me. Only one error on #3 overrunning it (30 secs). It was probably the easiest control on course. Got caught by a Swede around #8 and Gene Beveridge a few controls later who ran through us. Great fun!

Orienteering race (Middle Earth) 1:06:51 [5] *** 9.55 km (7:00 / km) +183m 6:23 / km
spiked:22/28c shoes: Innov-8 X-Talon 212

Ok run for most part. Lost maybe 40 secs each on #1, 2 and 3 then was ok till #8 in a different green vegetation when I couldnt see hidden control. Got caught by a Fin after the road crossing and hung onto the back of him for a few controls but the screwed up 2nd last control (4 min), losing 6 places. Just couldn't find it in the low vis green.

Edit: won a split, suck that nh:)

Orienteering race (Oceania Middle Champs) 57:22 [5] *** 6.5 km (8:50 / km) +224m 7:32 / km
spiked:24/28c shoes: Innov-8 X-Talon 212

Steep slippery terrain much too difficult for my ankles. Rolled right ankle early which was taped but had no confidence for rest of course so was never going to do a decent time. No huge time losses, biggest a couple minutes on the long leg getting stuck in the detailed rock and having to climb out.

Orienteering race (Oceania Relay) 46:59 [5] *** 8.2 km (5:44 / km) +121m 5:20 / km
spiked:24/28c shoes: Innov-8 X-Talon 212

Much better run today. Started 1st leg in a NSW team with Brooner and Atte. Purposely tried to run my own race from the start as I didn't want any big blowouts like yesterday. Ended up being a good idea with so many split controls. After the short first 5 controls, found myself on my own till Bert caught me at #10 and Felix Spath at #14. Managed to hold on the back off those two till pretty much the end.

Orienteering race (Oceania Long Champs) 3:06:50 [5] ***** 20.96 km (8:55 / km) +511m 7:57 / km
spiked:29/39c shoes: Innov-8 X-Talon 212

As tough as it gets. Was going ok till about halfway then the wheels seriously starting falling off. Probably the only time I've ever been over 3hrs for an O race, and to put it into context I finished 33rd out of 54.

Long list of time losses below. AP splits say 50 min which is normally conservative.

#9 (2 min) - exited 8 in bad direction then ended up going long road way to 9
#10 (4 min) - too far east in the light green
#12 (4 min) - got caught in cutty grass a number of times then ended up too short on the control
#15 (2 min) - overran control
#17 (30 secs) - too low
#20 (10 min) - got distracted by a few others then got completely lost, ended up having to run back towards 19 to relocate then still didn't get it
#24 (15 min) - according to AP, half the field couldn't find this one, I found it so hard to relocate being so tired
#27 (5 min) - getting really tired, just couldn't understand the terrain at all
#29 (5 min) - was almost walking this one and still blew it up
#31 (2 min) - way too low
