Paddle 5:38:00 [2]
This was the TA where they informed us that we could no longer get cp 17, as we were too far behind the leaders (though Im still unclear on what the actual timing of the cutoff was).
I forced down some serious calories in the form of fluids (mass gainer, ultragen, and carnation breakfast) and a ton of water and my dad was kind enough to let me sleep in the bottom of the boat and cool down for the first 50 minutes or so of the paddle.
The rest of the paddle went OK. We'd gain about 10 minutes on the guy behind us, then he'd catch us while we were searching for CP's.
Trekking 1:30:00 [2]
Quick little out and back foot section collecting Cps (5 maybe?).
We got the UTMs for the CP's at the TA, where they were plotted and checked over by the race staff before heading out. The main difference between these CP's and the other trek's being that these cps were an SI punch with a strip of reflective tape, but no flags. Once my dad got his head in the maps, we were about as clean as could be given the difficulty in spotting them.
Bike 4:00:00 [3]
Pretty straight forward bike to the TA. A couple CP's, and the UTM Lat/Long to cp 20 were found on this section. I think we rolled into the TA at the end of this bike in either 4th or 5th, where we were supposed to leave for an out and back to fetch CP 20 on foot. We were also informed that we would be waiting for a shuttle to move us forward in the race from here.
Unfortunately we had copied down the coordinates for cp 20 wrong, so we took the opportunity to dry out, eat and sleep while waiting for the shuttle.
Trekking 2:00:00 [2]
I have not a clue how long this section actually was.
No real running for us on this section, though we still were moving not too bad, and I can't really think of a single bobble where we could have improved navigationally.
Bike 6:00:00 [3]
Not entirely sure how long this took either.
Already being long out of the race and short coursed twice, we had pretty much decided the rest of the race was just a training exercise anyways, and we decided to just bike right through to Saturday nights TA, where there would be food and a place to sleep. A couple "out and back" style bike Cp's were skipped, along with a 12km trek section. We made some funky nav decisions on the bike to stay on faster roads rather than the old overgrown rail trail, and I think it paid off.
We were in the next TA by 10-1030 I believe, where we got some complimentary food from the food truck on site, pitched our tent and slept till morning.
