Orienteering race (Indian Valley) 1:13:19 [3] **** 3.9 km (18:48 / km) +175m 15:21 / km

This was a fairly difficult middle distance course at Indian Valley.

I got off to a bad start, trying to go too quickly and not really looking carefully at the map. I left the start with a slightly bad bearing, and took a little bit too much time finding the control once I was in its general area. To numbers two and three, everything went smoothly.

As I was leaving control #3, I banged my right knee very hard against a boulder. It hurt badly enough that I had to simply sit there for perhaps half a minute. After that, I decided that would be able to at least finish the course, but I did so at a jog/ walk.

Now, my knee is just a bit sore. It is bruised and bloody, so I am taking care not to bang it again, but it looks as though it will not be a lasting injury.

This was a training course on the UC Berkeley Campus. There was some regular orienteering, some corridor-o, and a section where I had to visit score-o controls that I had memorized from a master map.
