Note

ran the roding valley half marathon this morning. plan was to get there nice and early, run 3 miles for warm up, do the race in 87 mins, then run a 3 mile warm down. Dan FR was in for this too.

pretty much went to plan apart from the 3 mile warm up, time wasn't on our side after registering, changing, checking our bags in and then queueing for the toilets. so ran around 1/2 mile warm up.

race went pretty decent, kept Dan under control for the first couple of miles and then we settled into around 6.40 pace, slowing on the hills and speeding up on the downs.

i struggled a little bit between 6 and 11 miles, and could feel yesterdays effort in my legs. I could sense Dan was tugging at the leash with just over a mile to go, so I gave him permission to chase down the two guys ahead of us. I finished with a 6.17 final mile which still felt fairly relaxed.

Ran something like 86.37, so almost bang on pace. lets hope i can convert that pace to a full marathon.

Gels on 5 and 10 miles, the second one was a caffeine gel. might try using a caffeine gel as my last gel on longer runs from now on.

glad that i took Michael Balling's entry off him for this race, good to get a long tempo run in. Dan did really well too.

Note

Volunteered at the bushy parkrun as photographer, not a bad job fit.

Then ran into work from home with a pack. Not bad.

Getting sore, aggravated skin (looks like eczema) on the top of my feet, feels like a combination of friction from socks, lycra and trainers. Anyone else ever had this? Getting to a stage now where it's becoming a problem after around 6 miles.

Note

ran into work this morning. 6 minutes quicker than the start of january, roughly 7.30/mile which felt relatively comfortable. good. should probably do this more over the next few weeks just to get the miles in, makes sense. whether i do or not is another thing altogether.
