Potomac Heritage trail between Rosevelt Island and Chain Bridge, to C&O canal Chain Bridge to Georgetown, with Battery Kemble Park loop. Very muddy on the Virginia side. Accidently went off trail, followed river rocks just before chain bridge for 0.25 mi. Parked at GW parkway first overlook, not ideal to access the trail. You have to scramble down a sketchy climber's trail down 50+ foot cliff. Looked for a better way to climb up back to the overlook, but it was all cliffs. I had to make sure to remember which cliff I came down because you can't see the overlook from below, and there is no trail to approach the cliff. Tried to scramble up a vine covered hilside where the cliffs ended, but it was too slippery and unpleasant to get through.
