adventure racing race 16:30:00 [3] ****
Odyssey 1-day race. Good decisions and navigation for the first 12 hours and having fun. After dark, navigation was not fun - fighting to go straight through thick vegetation. Then nausea/dehydration started and got frustrated searching for a CP. Laid down several times to rest, hoping stomach would recover but it did not help much. Gave up and decided to just get to the finish as soon as possible. Skipped several easy points along the way. Stopped to puke several times and stomach felt better, but still had little energy and didn't feel like eating or drinking anymore. Went very slow for the last 4 hours, dragging myself to the finish, stopping 8 hours early (rogaine style race), but still finished official. Several other racers and teams were also ending their race early for various reasons at about the same time, but I seemed to have placed above them in the overall. For the near future, I'm not doing any races longer than 12 hours except ultras where I can solely focus on proper fueling, and figure out what works better. Battling through nausea and sleepmonsters are 2 things I will gladly take a break from.
