bike from sinks of gandy to gatewood campground on gravel roads. more towing involved. Arive at the rogaine start with 1.5 hours remaining. Temperature getting very hot on the climb up the mountain. Had one flat tire.

orienteering race 40:00 [5] ***** 0.7 mi (57:07 / mi) +150m 34:18 / mi

Had to punch at least 1 control to remain official. Bushwhacked dense underbrush to get the closest one. Was not even worth the 35 minute bonus time.

biking race (mountain biking) 12:55:00 [3] *** 50.0 mi (15:30 / mi)
slept:2.0

Mountain Biking leg from hell. Some ok trails in Canaan Valley, then unbikable uphill on Allegheny trail, fire road, knee deep large river ford, more uphill fireroads, then flattish trail with blowdowns and washed-out portions, more Allegheny trail shown on map to follow along a river, but rerouted to go over a couple steep unridable ridges. Finished in a reasonable amount of time with sore butts and searing/painful sun-burned shins (from the paddle) that got whacked dozens of times by deadfall and low vegetation. Did I mention hike-a-bike? Also hot as hell weather.

orienteering race 7:40:00 [2] *** 9.0 mi (51:07 / mi)

Hiked the indistinct but well blazed portion Allegheny trail to Wildell. Took twice as long as expected because of nightfall and searching for blazes on trees. People falling asleep

orienteering race 3:45:00 [3] ***** 8.0 mi (28:07 / mi) +750m 21:47 / mi

Trekking from Yokum's campground to river put-in. Nice views from ridge looking down on Seneca rocks.

paddling race (whitewater) 7:30:00 [4] 22.0 mi (20:27 / mi)

Boats provided were inflatable duckies. Paddling the south fork of the south branch of the potomac river through Smoke Hole Canyon. Small rapids, low water level, much boat dragging and getting stuck on rocks. Took almost twice as long as expected. Everyone was dying to get off the river.

biking race 4:50:00 [5] 18.0 mi (16:07 / mi) +1000m 13:44 / mi

Bike from Petersburg, through Klines Gap, up to Bear Rocks in Dolly Sods. Asphalt, then 1 mile bushwhacking with bikes through the gap, then gravel roads 6 miles uphill at 6% grade to Dolly Sods. Still having fun. Towing of teammates begins.

orienteering race 3:45:00 [4] ** 8.0 mi (28:07 / mi)
shoes: Vasque Veloc.

Hike across Dolly sods, descend down to Timberline. Foggy at night. Some trails more like bogs than trails. Good thing we scouted the trail last week and memorized the route. Otherwise you will likely wander 8 extra miles.

EX2 trail marathon at Prince William Forest. Perfect weather. Started out way too fast, trying to keep up with the half-marathon runners. Had electrolyte problems because I forgot my E-caps. I still got 2nd place (age group), but I h 20 m ( ! ) behind the winner. For the first time, knees are not sore afterwards. I guess the training helped.
