Blue course was easy today. No mistakes except the last control, which was minor. Execution was near perfect, just slow and tired overall. Training for ultramarathons apparently makes me slow.

running race 5:30:00 [3] * 28.2 mi (11:42 / mi)
shoes: Salomon XA Pro 3

Bull Run Run 50 Mile Race.
Unfortunately, decided to DNF at Mile 28 at Fountainhead. My pace from mile 16 (Hemlock) to Fountainhead dropped off so much that I decided it wasn't worth it to finish if I was going to be considerably slower than last year's time of just under 10 hour. The main problem was 2.5 hours of sleep the night before the race and 3 hours of sleep the night before that. My legs just had no energy. I could still hike the rest of the course and make the cutoff times and officially finish, but I didn't think it was worth it. On the positive side, physically my legs felt better than last year at that point in the race with fewer aches and soreness. I tried to take a short nap at the aid station, but I started getting cold, even wrapped up in a plastic tablecloth, so I had to start walking around. After 2.5 hours of spectating, I official missed the cutoff and got a ride back from a random support crew. Except for all the mud in the beginning, the race course was great the event is well run. I will be back again properly trained and rested and try again next year.
