C and O Canal, Old anglers Inn to Rileys Lock and back.
Team training and paceline practice (on gravel though)

running 1:00:00 [3] 4.0 mi (15:00 / mi)
shoes: Salomon XA pro, gray

Seneca Greenway Trail, out and back.
More Team training

paddling 4:00:00 [3] 11.0 mi (21:49 / mi)

Double kayaks, plastic/recreational rentals, from Old Anglers Inn to Fletchers boathouse. Potomac river to Little falls. One set of rapids before the Beltway swamped one kayak, mainly becuase they were too heavy for their boat (funny). We negotiated other rocks and low water without damaging or dragging our boat, thank god.
Portaged Little Falls Dam via the canal, and put in to the feeder channel.
Unknowingly ran Z-turn rapids to get back to the main channel, and they swamped again. Then and there we decided not to run Little Falls. Decided to portage up the dam to avoid walking up Z-turn rapids to get back to the feeder channel, and then portaged back to the canal, then paddled down to Fletchers, portaging all the locks. Fun.

orienteering race 1:05:00 [4] *** 5.0 mi (13:00 / mi)
shoes: Salomon XA pro, gray

Score-O at Accotink. Carefully planned out a good route to get the most bonus points. Hit 117 out of order while looking for 110, skipped 112, and spent too much time off course looking for 104. Had enough time to actually get all the points, but was too conservative. Also forgot about 113/118 switch, and should have gotten my last four 118-119-107-108 in order. Should have been able to get all the bonus points except 3 and done a full course in the time allotted.

biking 2:00:00 [3] 17.0 mi (7:04 / mi)

To and from the Accotink O-meet, then to Wakefield for some easy laps, then to lunch and then home.

Friday Sep 14, 2007 #

biking 2:15:00 [3] 14.0 mi (9:39 / mi)

Mountain biking at Fountainhead. Cloudy, and nobody on the trails. We decided to do the loop past the picnic tables twice, once forward, and once backwards. Started raining soon after we stopped.

Wednesday Sep 12, 2007 #

orienteering 2:00:00 [3] 7.0 mi (17:09 / mi) +390m 14:37 / mi

From Rock Springs REC center up a gravel road to climb up to White Mountain plateau. Saw Pilot Butte in the distance. Ran back down. Warm, sunny, windy, dry conditions.

Friday Sep 7, 2007 #

biking 1:30:00 [4] 11.0 mi (8:11 / mi)

Around wakefield from home. Crashed on the 4th run down the bermed hill - slid out after coming off a berm too high and too fast into the next berm, leaned enough to make the turn, but the tires wouldn't hold. Crashed on my side onto dirt and rocks, which gave me some nasty scrapes, and small bruises.

Thursday Sep 6, 2007 #

running 50:00 [3] 5.56 mi (9:00 / mi)
shoes: Asics 2100

W and OD, in and around Reston. Another "hungry" run, ate a granola bar halfway through.

Wednesday Sep 5, 2007 #

biking 1:20:00 [3] 15.0 mi (5:20 / mi)

Lake Fairfax / Difficult run loop, then W and OD towards vienna and back.
Saw a small brown and tan spotted snake laying across half the pavement near Hunter MIll road. I went back to get a better look at it, and scared it off the trail, away from the danger of bicycles.

Tuesday Sep 4, 2007 #

running 35:00 [1] 2.92 mi (11:59 / mi)
shoes: Asics 2100

Easy run on the W and OD, a few pickups to test out my tiredness. A hungry run - started out hungry and ate a granola bar during the run.

Monday Sep 3, 2007 #

running 1:30:00 [3] 6.0 mi (15:00 / mi)
shoes: Vasque Veloc.

Team training at Riverbend. Potomac Heritage Trail up river and back

biking 1:15:00 [3] 11.0 mi (6:49 / mi)

Team training, biking Riverbend to Great Falls, into Difficult run and back. Moderate pace, with practice climbing the hills.

Sunday Sep 2, 2007 #

biking 1:40:00 [3] 8.5 mi (11:46 / mi)

Fountainhead loop, after paddling. Stopped for broken chain.
Also some road hill climbing and sprint-pace effort on the first loop of the MTB trail to end the long training day.

orienteering 2:50:00 [3] 11.5 mi (14:47 / mi)
shoes: Salomon XA pro, gray

Bull run trail from Wolf run shoals to Yates Ford road. Tried to go cross-country on the way back, but lost 20 minutes going up the wrong ridge and being blocked by houses. Would not have saved much time versus the trail.

Then did the DO loop, with a side trip to hampton road to look at a house for sale.

paddling 1:10:00 [3] 5.0 mi (14:00 / mi)

NV racing big training session.
Kayaking at fountainhead, to and from Wolf Run shoals beach.
Fog on the water in the early morning.
