Gym 40:00 [3]

Hotel gym.

Getting better I think, but fighting another round of jet lag. Now in Vancouver.

Cycling 1:30:00 [2]
(sick)

Hired bikes in Bruges and had a Cruisy ride around some Belgian countryside with Kate, until the rain came and it wasn't so pleasant.

Sickness getting better, but by no means over it.

Note
(sick)

Well if I was sick the last few days, I'm really sick now. Lack of sleep, travel, poor diet, jet lag and obviously picking something nasty up had completely screwed me.

In Bruges and left first afternoon of conference early as just in a bad way.

Orienteering race 58:00 [4] 4.4 km (13:11 / km)
(sick) shoes: Brooks Cascadia 5

Tuesday night local event in Trondheim.

Struggled to get into the map the first three controls then nailed everything and had a ball. Bloody tough physically, and I'm not very well.

Event: WMOC 2012

1 PM

Orienteering race (WMOC sprint qual) 18:12 [5] 3.7 km (4:55 / km) +40m 4:40 / km
(sick) shoes: Brooks Racer ST5

Focused on taking it easy at the start and getting into the map. So took off slowly and winded around a few streets into the area of the first control. Immediately saw a bunch of controls and made a small parallel error, stopping at a control about 15m away from mine. Quickly corrected and continued on my way. Course was interesting enough without being particularly exciting. I made a few 5-10s errors but nothing significant, otherwise it was a number of hesitations trying to work out where you could get through, ultimately all the route choice legs were a left or right leg. Physically had very little, and struggled up the hill leg near the end. Qualified in 11th, easy enough, clearly the standard isn't too high. I had a reasonable run, no big errors and struggled for speed, so happy enough.

WMOC sprint qualification

Run warm up/down 25:00 [2]
shoes: Brooks Racer ST5

Strolled around, more in the cool down the warm up, really really struggling by this stage. Really feeling sick as a dog now.

Ambitious plan update - so far so good, but looks like it won't tomorrow.

What a day. Little sleep in then bus and train across to Liege and Le Tour with An, her boyfriend and a friend. Awesome being around the team buses at the start and got within a meter or so of all the GreenEdge bikes. Atmosphere was electric, people everywhere. We made our way over to the course at about the 2.4km mark which had a big roundabout. Jostled for all the free giveaways with everyone, then watched all the riders warmup for 4-5 laps then down to the business end, even had a crash (the 1?) at our feet, didn't have the camera out at the time which was a bummer.

Then met up with Tash, Waz, Sue and co and they were kind enough to squeeze me on their car. It was a tight fit and there were some tired agitated kids by the end. Arrived a bit after midnight into the WMOC region by which time I was starting to feel quite I'll (bad head cold).
