Road running race 37:01 [5] 10.0 km (3:42 / km)

A rare post from me, but I'm celebrating that after years of rather disappointing 10k races, I finally managed a really good run to smash my 10k PB!

I'd previously done 14 different 10K races over the last 6 years, all between 38:26 and 39:57 - very consistent, but never able to get a time to compare to my PB from other distances which showed I should be capable of much better.

But here it all went really well, on a fast flat 4-lap flat course around the Olympic Park with loops around the main stadium, with very consistent pacing and even splits throughout (2.5k laps in 9:21, 9:17, 9:13, 9:13). My only regret was not to go 2 seconds quicker and get into the 36's! (although the last km was my fastest).

So I've now gone from 10km being the worst of my PB's to this being my best ever race comparatively (my highest ever VDOT score of 56.9, apparently equivalent to a 2:51 marathon) - so all boding very well for hopefully a decent London Marathon attempt in a few weeks' time.

Not sure what I put it down to - I've been doing a very different type of marathon build up to previously (without much speedwork other than lots of Marathon Pace stuff) - but it seems something is going right. Or maybe it was just down to my new Nike Vaporfly shoes, which really felt like I was floating on air...
