The new WinSplits has finally been released!
First, a disclaimer: since I have done most of the translation of WinSplits into English, I am definitely not an unbiased or impartial observer. Nevertheless, having tested and played with WinSplits Pro at home for the last couple of months, I think it's totally awesome and is the perfect toy for the orienteering nerd. Try out the trial version and see what you think!

Running 18:22 [2] 2.03 mi (9:03 / mi)
shoes: 2007 model Falcons

Running from Polacksbacken to the start of backbana and back.

Running 33:37 [3] 5.06 km (6:39 / km) +300m 5:07 / km
shoes: 2007 model Falcons

Running the backbana with Kat, mostly right behind her, telling her where to turn. She did well, looking especially fast on the downhills and pretty strong on the uphills, too.

Running 30:00 [2] 3.33 mi (9:00 / mi)
shoes: 2007 VJ Falcons

Lots of jogging around.

Orienteering 18:54 [5] 3.78 km (5:00 / km)
shoes: 2007 VJ Falcons

Tonight's training was a whole-club relay, meant for people to get to know each other a bit, promote club spirit, and have a bit of fun in the process. Each team consisted of 1 H21, 1 D21/H45/H18, 1 D18/H14/DH55, and 1 beginner (usually HD10). People were divided into these categories, and then teams were picked by lottery. There were 14 teams in all. And then the relay was run. The leg order was set up such that each category got sufficient rest, and H21's ran 5 legs, D21's 4, and so on. The final leg was run by the whole team together, with the youngest member doing the navigation. It was a lot of fun, and it was nice to see most of the club's top runners turn up for this and actually take it seriously - run hard for their teams. My team consisted of Mari Troeng, Filip Axelsson-Meyerson, a small girl named Vanja, and myself actually managed to win.
Leg times: 3:38, 4:17, 4:02, 2:37, 4:20.

Running 37:45 [2] 4.72 mi (8:00 / mi)
shoes: Montrail Trail Shoes

A loop starting at the house, going through Hågaby and Eriksberg, and ending in Stadsskogen. Ran with Kat, Patrick, and Andrew.

Orienteering 28:30 [2] ** 3.56 km (8:00 / km)
shoes: Montrail Trail Shoes

We came to the first session of quasi-beginner orienteering clinics for students that Lina Å and a few others were organizing. They used the women's course from the club middle distance champs to train on, and Kat wanted to run it. I did it in reverse order, moving one control to the right spot in the process. Cold and wet.

Running 15:00 [2] 1.76 mi (8:30 / mi)
shoes: 2007 VJ Falcons

Warm-up, plus a bit of a cool-down with Kat.

Orienteering race 1:10:03 [4] *** 9.6 km (7:18 / km)
spiked:13/18c shoes: 2007 VJ Falcons

District relay champs, combined for Uppland and Stockholm, except that Stockholm's teams had four legs, and ours only had three. You'd think that after 17 years of orienteering, I would know that it's actually good to look at your map during a mass start race. Apparently not. I ran the first leg and, as usual, right from the start, everyone took off, including me. Ran as hard as I could to stay with the pack, meaning perhaps just two glances at the map during the very long first leg. One more glance would have been nice. Came to the wrong fork's control, then the other fork's, still not mine. Immediately realized where I was and took off for my control. Found it, losing probably 1.5 minutes but, more importantly, also losing the pack. Hit #2 just fine, catching up to a few guys, and then - repeated by idiocy from #1 going to #3!!! Again didn't look at the map enough and came to the wrong fork. This time, a bigger mistake - I overran and had to go back along a rocky hillside. Probably up to 3 minutes lost, and the run already ruined. Finally started orienteering by myself after this, and things went better, but there is now way I could make up time on the leaders. Finished over 15 (!!) minutes behind Mats, who exchanged in the lead. The rest of my team didn't have its best day either, and we finished as the 6th Linné team and 8th overall in Uppland. First four teams were from Linné.

Running 20:00 [2] 2.5 mi (8:00 / mi)
shoes: 2007 model Falcons

Warm-up, partway with Kat.

Orienteering race 34:06 [4] *** 4.9 km (6:58 / km)
spiked:15/17c shoes: 2007 model Falcons

Uppland-DM, Middle Distance, organized by Länna.
Pouring rain the whole day, and I had the last start, meaning huddling in the club tent as people came and went, and finally trudging out to the start after a few minutes after Kat had finished, with a very good run.
Ran all alone the whole way and kept up a good pace throughout. Felt like I was running well and orienteering really sharply for the most part. The only control I didn't have a plan on, #4, I paid dearly on, losing almost 2 minutes there. Otherwise, a good run with just one more 30 second parallel error on #13. Solid otherwise, good for 15th place overall, 12th out of Linné runners.

2006: 20th/44, 30.9% behind winner
2007: 15th/43, 23.6% behind winner

Running 16:00 [2] 2.0 mi (8:00 / mi)
shoes: Montrail Trail Shoes

Running over to the start of backbana from school, and back.

Running 28:41 [4] 5.0 km (5:44 / km) +300m 4:25 / km
shoes: Montrail Trail Shoes

Lunchtime backbana. Ran 1 lap, trying to take relatively "easy", which is hard to do on backbana. Legs felt tired from the intervals yesterday, which didn't help things, but my time ended up pretty decent - the fastest i've run so far, I think. I've never actually raced backbana for fear of breaking some body parts on the really steep downhills, but maybe i'll try it one of these days just to see.

Running 25:08 [2] 3.28 mi (7:40 / mi)
shoes: Montrail Trail Shoes

My first morning jog around the block in what seems like ages. Sunny and cool, nice morning for running.

Running 48:00 [2] 5.65 mi (8:30 / mi)
shoes: Saucony 2006

Running over to Blodan with Kat, warm-up, jogging/walking between intervals, cool-down.

Running 32:00 [4] 5.47 mi (5:51 / mi)
shoes: Saucony 2006

Threshold intervals in Stadsskogen with Andrew. I did 8x4 minutes with 1 min rest. As usual struggled a bit in the beginning, but then felt better and better as we went on. Nice, tough work-out.
