XC Skiing (Track set) 25:00 [3]

Timmins weekend
The joy of a fresh cm of snow on top of freshly set tracks! I was the first one around those tracks this morning so when I got to the first bird feeder, I shovelled yesterday's snowfall off the platform. The chickadees and a red squirrel were glad I had brought a sandwich bag full of sunflower seeds from the chalet.

'Cross training' (Snowshoeing) 25:00 [3]

A short snowshoe trek in the beautiful woods.

XC Skiing race 48:27 [5] 8.0 km (9.9 kph)

I was going skiing anyways, so I signed up for the Porcupine Ski Runners loppet. The 20k seemed appealing, but with an 11 am start, I was not sure I would be done by supper time. So it was the 8k. It was a mass start, skate and classic, 3, 8 and 20k, men and women and kids. As usual for me, I started at the back to stay out of everyone's way. It was a bit of a Donnybrook with people wiping out and dropping poles, but within a half a klick, we were spread out. The 3k turned off very soon and shortly after that, it was just me and the tracks and the conifers and the snow. I bet from 1.5k onward, I did not see a single skier. The 20k folks turned off on the Olympic loop, so the tracks were much less used after that. To my delight, it started gently snowing big flakes. I wasn't sure which trails were part of the course, and I was a bit disappointed when we turned left at Bird feeder Hill rather than right and missed some monster hills (up and down). Still no one ahead of me nor behind me as I finished in 48-something. Honestly, I was hoping to be a bit over an hour.
I brought a water bottle with me and was glad I did as I drank three times on the course. It was kind of like a CX race..... running full out.

XC Skiing warm up/down (Track set) 40:00 [3]

I skied for about 10 minutes after finishing, then ate my sandwich. Then headed out for another half hour of skiing, getting on a different trail for part of it again. Such nice skiing.
When I got back, the organizers were doing the door prizes (and there were lots!) and the race placings. And to my absolute surprise, I won the women's 8k classic. And yes, there was a 2nd and 3rd place. I don't know if there were any more in the class but the results will be posted at some point .The young women were apparently more into skate skiing than shuffling. Il y a bien du monde qui parlent français (that is quite normal in Timmins, plus there were a lot of skiers there from un club de ski du fond d'Amos, PQ).
I got a lunch bag sponsored by my son's employer as a door prize. Well, my son now has a new lunch bag :)

***There were 13 women in the 8k classic class. And all the speedy men must've been skating too, as only one man in the 8k classic came in ahead of me (well ahead of me!)

Gym time 50:00 [3]
shoes: Omni

What a rainy and foggy day.

10 minutes of rowing to start.
Kettlebell stuff
Smith machine
20 minutes of brisk walking relativity steep and steeper "hills" on the treadmill (just over a mile)

Hockey 30:00 [3]

Missing a few players due to the foggy conditions out and about, but we pulled off a W......at least partly as we were playing the bottom team in the league.
