Daze 5: Ten at Ten. A very fast course in open terrain at Pitcher Hill. Made a small mistake of less than a minute trying to shortcut the pack on number one. Ended up 17th as strong runners dominated on a relatively easy navigation course.

orienteering race 1:05:30 [4] **** 5.9 km (11:06 / km) +180m 9:38 / km

Laramie Daze - the One Cowboy Relay (motala) at Gates of AMT Hell map. 5 loops. Mass start. The first four were randomized in order. The last loop was common to everyone, meaning a head-to-head finish. One significant mistake cost me about 3 minutes and removing a thorn from inside my shoe took another minute. Otherwise just a few very minor bobbles and generally a pretty clean run.

Laramie Daze - Day One at Moose Outlet. Finished the mass start race in 12th place. No car problems of my own today but had to give another orienteer a jump start. Glad I have a new alternator. Ha ha.

Driving day from Oxford OH to Kearney MO. The first 8 hours went well. The next six turned into something else.
First I blew out a tire at 70mph on I 70. Fun. By the time I got stopped I figured the sidewall was pretty much shot. Got the lug nuts loosened ok but couldn't get the spare to crank down from underneath the van. Kick, tugged, etc to no avail. AAA showed up in a timely fashion and after we both fought with it for several minutes we finally got the donut down and installed. Limped a few miles down the interstate and found an open truck stop. Three big rigs worth of tire changes later, they finally looked at the tire and declared that they couldnt fix it. But I could go to Orscheln and buy a tire and they'd put it on for me. Ok, sounded good but when I got to Orscheln they were already closed for the night. Wonderful.
Continued limping west on 70, while a friend in KC (Angie Barrett) made a few calls and found a 24 hour tire service. Talked to him on the phone and he'd be happy to help but he didn't have a tire in my size. But if I'd buy one he'd put it on. Sounds good.
He directed me to a 24 hr Walmart on my way. Found the Walmart, but they had no tires. Another Walmart later, I finally had a tire and around 10 pm pulled into they're guy's garage in KC. True to his word, he fixed me up and I was finally on my way, a few dollars and several hours poorer.

weights / strength 10:00 [3]

Battle of the spare tire. Grrrrrrr.
