Note

Feeling 95% normal, but took it easy. Extreme winds with 60 mph gusts and falling temperatures didn't make for a very nice day to be out.

Feeling much better today, still slightly congested, but no meds. Planning to take it easy for one more day, then run Mt Airy on Saturday.

walking 2:00:00 [1] * 5.5 mi (21:49 / mi)
(sick)

I started with a pre-dawn check of courses for today's school program, including replacing a control that grew legs overnight. I knew I shouldn't have put it out while there was still a Middle School basketball game going on, but on the dark side of the gym, I figured it would go unnoticed. I figured wrong. Pleasant temperatures, but some light drizzle.

During the class periods, I walked around the campus, mainly just observing students, but once in a while needing to offer a little assistance ("You want to cross the highway? Let's think about this. The highway is the edge of the map. Are there any controls off the map?") Actually, most of the kids did pretty well. The first class ran the courses in a mix of drizzle, light rain, and general gray cloudiness. The afternoon class got lucky with partly clearing skies, but the trails in the wooded part of the grounds had gotten really muddy and slippery. Then, at day's end, I made a circuit to pick up controls. I figure I actually spent closer to 3 hours on the courses, but some of that was standing around watching kids, so I'm just counting 2 hours. Mileage is a low-end estimate; I might have done more.

Still feeling a little under the weather. I hope this cold is gone in time for me to run Mt. Airy this Saturday.

walking 55:00 [1] * 3.5 km (15:43 / km)
(sick)

Setting control points for school orienteering program. Familiar 1:4000 map which I fieldchecked, so I listed technical intensity as a 1. I definitely have a low grade cold with a little congestion & sneezing. I got through the day of teaching without taking any meds, but I expect I'll need a decongestant tomorrow when we do the outdoor courses. Fortunately, only two 75 minute classes of 8th graders. Unfortunately, first and second-last periods of the school day, so a long gap in between classes.

still feeling just a little "off" & better to be safe than sorry. Also, today is the opening day of deer gun season in Ohio. Not a good day to be in the woods, even non-hunting areas if they happen to border on private or public hunting lands.

woke up with a sore throat this morning. Don't feel too bad, but going with the extra vitamins & rest & only light exercise for a day or two.
