Around the river, no group today but the cafe had saved 4 zucchini muffins for us. Pity I couldn't eat all of them.

Road cycling 2:05:39 [3] 49.7 km (2:32 / km)

Around the river, SE headwind on the freeway path, swung around to NE by the time I reached Freo, so headwinds for 2/3 of the ride. Quiet at The Other Side, except that everyone who was there seemed to have one or more dogs with them.

Orienteering race 54:52 [4] 3.8 km (14:26 / km)
shoes: X-Talon 190

WA Long Distance Champs at Stonebrook. 1 was just a run down the track and finding the right entry point into the mullock-heaps. 2 was really too easy but couldn't make a decision to climb up go and look behind the right heap without circling around it and wasting a good 40 secs as well as giving it away to PD who started 2 mins ahead of me. 3 a track run followed by cliff climbing. Did another 2 mins at 4 where I stupidly didn't use my compass in the run across the paddock and found 10 (useful later ;-). Didn't use the compass again at 5, and wasted another minute or so climbing over a spur that I needn't have. 5-6 aimed for the patches of yellow and hoped (without much expectation of success) to spot one or two of Juffy's root mounds. Didn't see them, so dropped down to just above the stream and tracked along it but then had to go through a particularly nasty patch of prickly moses to get to the flag. Could see the hill in front of 7, so that was easy, but leaving it wasn't with all the green before reaching the track above 8. Went around in the yellow to 9 (but quite a bit of it not yellow any longer) - straight was probably a better option. Seemed to take forever to track along the stream and past the new dam before reaching the paddock half-way to 10, then it was just a plod up the hill. 11 was a nice downhill run and found it easily, but then made a mistake by running down to the main track, when I should have turned and climbed back over the spur. Ran too far along the track and then up the wrong paddock (past 13 though I didn't see it) all the way to a huge earth bank that I thought was the edge of the dam but turned out to be the edge of the track up to the start. Had to turn around and bash through horrendous green to get to the dam, then had to go around that to the control - another 2 mins blown. 12 to the finish all straightforward, found the last control in the green patch easily enough, but it seems to have caused lots of problems for others.

Had another win and maintained dominance over the junior supervets. BUT - 12 mins behind Anthea!
