Road cycling 2:35:49 [3] 55.52 km (2:48 / km)
shoes: Bike: Beemer Auto

Around the river via Mt Henry, met PP at Swanbourne. About half of the ride in SCR, using higher gears now when conditions are favourable. Have now done 30,000kms on the Beemer.

Road cycling 2:15:05 [3] 44.05 km (3:04 / km)
shoes: Bike: Beemer Auto

Bassendean, but starting through the city, around S Perth and over Matagarup. Very windy.

Road cycling 2:19:31 [3] 48.04 km (2:54 / km)
shoes: Bike: Beemer Auto

Around the river in SCR, avoiding the worst gradients and taking it easy on the unavoidable ones.

Road cycling 1:40:25 [3] 33.36 km (3:01 / km)
shoes: Bike: Beemer Auto

Variation of West Coast ride, without going over the coastal ridge. About time they paved the rest of the path around Herdsman, or at least put some signs up to direct cyclists back to Pearson St.

Road cycling 2:01:01 [3] 38.05 km (3:11 / km)
shoes: Bike: Beemer Auto

To Bassendean again, with PP. Took her around Optus and over Matagarap Bridge, and various other diversions, including for brekkie at Holly Rayes.

Road cycling 1:42:56 [3] 33.36 km (3:05 / km)
shoes: Bike: Beemer Auto

Bassendean in SCR, quad felt ok.

Note
(injured)

Saw Physio re quad strain, not as bad as the last one on the right leg 3-4 years ago. OK to ride, but stay in SCR and no hills.

Road cycling 2:27:09 [3] 56.48 km (2:36 / km)
shoes: Bike: Beemer Auto

Mt Henry and around the river, rain forecast but stayed away. The new path under the Loch St bridge is finished - the cycling equivalent of an 8 lane freeway, the widest bike path I've ever seen.

Road cycling 2:58:07 [3] 68.71 km (2:36 / km)
shoes: Bike: Beemer Auto

Two rivers ride, battling 30km/h NNW headwind up the coast. Hat to wait 4 mins for a train at Tydeman Rd for only the second time in all the rides I've done through there.

Road cycling 33:00 [3] 12.0 km (2:45 / km)
shoes: Bike: Beemer Auto

Ride to physio in West Perth (and back) for neck treatment and bike refit. Since the previous bike fit when I first purchased the Beemer in 2013, I've gotten 5 years older, and the handlebars and saddle have been changed (accident earlier this year and wear & tear of leather respectively). Damien has also got some flash new equipment which included video (front and side) and a gizmo which shows where you are on the saddle. I have a right side saddle bias, which no adjustment of position could fix (and explains the wear on the previous saddle), but did show me overreaching for the pedals a little. Video showed a certain amount of head bobbing, also an indication of overreaching.

Saddle went down by 5mm and bars were rolled up by 3mm, and then I immediately felt more comfortable and more power - and the head stayed straight!. Well worth it! About 3kms equivalent on the trainer during the refit added to the ride distance of 9kms.

Orienteering race 18:49 [3] 1.8 km (10:27 / km)
ahr:126 max:138 shoes: X-Talon 190

Leg 1 Masters at WA Relays, Joondalup ECU, 2.41kms gps. Ran conservatively, trying to remember to mostly breathe through the nose, time unspectacular as a result - 2nd, but 4 mins behind Nick. Lost a minute climbing up to the wrong level at 5.

Used the Garmin because I wanted to see the HR if another spasm occurred - it didn't and the HR is equally as unspectacular as the run.

Orienteering race 15:54 [4] 1.9 km (8:22 / km)
ahr:132 max:147 shoes: X-Talon 190

Leg 3 of Relays. 2.33kms on Garmin 235. Tried to up the speed a bit this time, one small mistake - a level one again where I went under the bridge that the control was on.

Noel and I were 2nd, 6 mins behind Anthea and Nick, and 12 mins ahead of the next team. Looks like Nick made a 4 min error on his second leg.

Road cycling 2:14:14 [3] 49.56 km (2:43 / km)
shoes: Bike: Beemer Auto

Around the river, with Noel from East Freo. Very cold morning, but sunny.

Wednesday Aug 8, 2018 #

Road cycling 1:29:35 [3] 32.89 km (2:43 / km)
shoes: Bike: Beemer Auto

Bassendean ride, trying to breathe through nose again, but not easy when sinuses are blocked.

Rain stayed away until Maylands on the return leg, but then didn't let up until I got home.

Road cycling 2:24:29 [3] 55.71 km (2:36 / km)
shoes: Bike: Beemer Auto

Mt Henry and then around the river. Managed to mostly breathe in through the nose, found that breathing out through the mouth was better than out through the nose when going hard or uphill. Had to concentrate the whole time, or would have just lapsed back to mouth breathing.

Monday Aug 6, 2018 #

Note

ENT specialist put a camera through my nose and I watched the inside of my throat doing various things that he asked. He couldn't find any obvious damage, but ordered a CT scan of my neck (booked for tomorrow) to see if there is any muscular damage. Episodes are apparently laryngospams whcih can be brought on by impact trauma and breathing in cold air, amongst other things which I don't think apply to me (stress, anxiety, flu).

He thinks it will settle down - subject to the results of the scan. In the meantime, I'll try breathing mainly through the nose when running or out on the bike (I've always been a 'through the mouth' runner).

Orienteering race 41:56 [4] 3.2 km (13:06 / km)
shoes: Inov-8 Oroc 280

Middle Distance State League at Little Frazzle. GPS says 3.73km. Going well until 13, then had another episode and had to stop. Very slow over the last 5 controls. Was in 2nd place at 13, only a minute behind Anthea, and on the way to collecting at least 99 OY points, possibly 100. Not saying I would have beaten Anthea, but finishing within 2.5 minutes of her time would have given me a faster adjusted time than Craig. Only mistakes to that point (13) were going the long way around the fallen trees to No.2 and being a little bit right of 7, maybe 30 seconds all up.

Specialist tomorrow.
