Monday Jul 30, 2018 #

Road cycling 1:04:11 [3] 27.59 km (2:20 / km)
shoes: Bike: Beemer Auto

Tootled over to West Perth for a physio apptmt, and from there to Mt Henry and home at a much faster pace.

Road cycling 3:11:47 [3] 72.37 km (2:39 / km)
shoes: Bike: Beemer Auto

Hills ride, didn't seem to have much zip up Welshpool Rd, but better up the less steep Mundaring Weir Rd. Wind was forecast to be SWly, but seemed in my face every time I was heading North.

Di2 Charge.

Road cycling 2:18:19 [3] 49.59 km (2:47 / km)
shoes: Bike: Beemer Auto

Afternoon ride around the river after waiting all day for the rain to clear. Had one shower between Hay St and the Narrows, then it was really good.

Thursday Jul 26, 2018 #

Road cycling 3:08:29 [3] 71.96 km (2:37 / km)
shoes: Bike: Beemer Auto

Two rivers ride, nice day after all the rain recently. Saw a dolphin just South of the Narrows, then passed Richard and Fizzyred a few minutes later.

Monday Jul 23, 2018 #

Road cycling 1:25:40 [3] 32.89 km (2:36 / km)
shoes: Bike: Beemer Auto

To Bassendean, tailwind out, headwind back - but not as strong as was forecast.

Orienteering race 38:13 [3] 4.3 km (8:53 / km)
shoes: Inov-8 X-Talon 2nd pair

Easy course 2 at Jorgensen Trail-O, 5.06kms on gps.

I was hoping to take a few X-country routes to save a bit of time, but except for the final parts of 2-3 and 5-6 it was far better to use the tracks. Went wide left to 1, and again for 7-8 to avoid dropping height and having to climb back up. 14 seconds behind our M18, but 10 minutes behind the Norwegian and 6 behind his younger sister.

Road cycling 2:15:13 [3] 50.16 km (2:42 / km)
shoes: Bike: Beemer Auto

Around the river, no group today but then i thought I saw Noel going the opposite way on Curtin Ave. At the time I was struggling into a very strong headwind, and the traffic was heavy, so not sure if it was him, or if he noticed me.

Thursday Jul 19, 2018 #

Road cycling 2:25:11 [3] 54.97 km (2:38 / km)
shoes: Bike: Beemer Auto

Around the river, including Mt Henry, fairly easy pace.

Tuesday Jul 17, 2018 #

Road cycling 1:41:14 [3] 37.21 km (2:43 / km)
shoes: Bike: Beemer Auto

Bassendean, but first . . . tried out the Matagarup Bridge. Not very bike (or pram, wheelchair, scooter) friendly accessing it from Nelson Ave as it has a continuous high kerb with no road access points almost as far as Trinity College.

SWly, cool.

Note

Doc thinks yesterday's incident is related to the impact on my larynx/trachea area when I fell onto the termite mound at Edmund Rice college back in May, causing the airway to close when under stress from very intensive exercise. Have apptmt with an ENT specialist in a couple of weeks.

Orienteering race 17:47 [3] 1.9 km (9:22 / km)
shoes: X-Talon 190

WA Sprint Champs at Willetton SHS. Had to slow right down after 2 when I found it difficult to breathe. This got worse and I had to walk for a while after 4. Jogged through 5 to 10, then was able to run again, including fairly good speed from 11 to the finish. Left 2 in the wrong direction (probably due to the breathing problem, but corrected quickly. Possible route choice loss from 8-9, but I don't think there was much in it. Winner beat me by 3 mins, waiting for splits to see if there was anything more than the slowing down. According to my readout I won the first two splits and the second last, so seems that without the slowing I would have been close.

Using the Tomtom for the first time on a run, I set it to gym as the symbol is pretty similar to the one for run, and didn't get a trace as a result.

Will visit doc tomorrow, possible reason is EIB (exercise induced asthma), have had the same thing happen once or twice on the bike recently, doesn't last long and disappears after a few minutes. Hope it's not something more serious.

Road cycling 2:10:46 [3] 50.28 km (2:36 / km)

Around the river, with Noel from East Freo. SWly for a change.

Wednesday Jul 11, 2018 #

Road cycling 1:36:01 [3] 33.38 km (2:53 / km)
shoes: Bike: Beemer Auto

Afternoon ride to Bassendean with PP, had nice coffee at Holly Rayes in Bassendean - good cakes there too.

Tuesday Jul 10, 2018 #

Road cycling 2:22:42 [3] 56.51 km (2:32 / km)
shoes: Bike: Beemer Auto

Mt Henry & on around the river, NEly hampering progress beyond Freo yet again.

Using new cheapo gps (TomTom Spark, $128) - seems pretty good, downloading is simpler than the FR235. Doesn't have HR, but seems good value compared to expensive Garmin products. Hopefully the screen is tougher too:)

Orienteering race 58:39 [3] 3.6 km (16:18 / km)
ahr:129 max:169 shoes: Inov-8 Oroc 280

H3 course at Jumbuck Hill, gps 4.79kms. First leg was along a powerline, but looked to be overgrown so I left open the option of going around the road until I could see that the powerline looked ok. After punching I stopped to help a family on the M course, whose control was further West - dropped about a minute. For 2 I went a little wide to use the open areas, then I went back to the track for 3; was a bit worried about the last 300m through green, took it slowly and came onto it. Got sucked into not climbing out of 3, which took me wide, then I misread the track bends before the control and attacked from one that was too low. Came out on 2 small rock surfaces which I took to be the ones South of the control, but it turns out they were only mapped as a couple of rocky ground dots - lost at least 4 mins here. 4-5 I kept low around the spurs and gully, hit a very obvious rock surface with cliff 100m N of the control, no problems but slow, the straight route was probably a couple of minutes faster. 5 to 8 were 3 diagonal downhill legs in a row, not one of my strong points. Little blip at 6 where I went to the wrong spur - 30 seconds. Was on track for 7, but not confident and stayed too high resulting in having to negotiate going down a high cliff, followed by a very stony section - costly, at least 2 minutes. The rest was ok except for going in too early at 9.

Good course, lots of variety.

Road cycling 1:18:51 [3] 32.83 km (2:24 / km)
ahr:97 max:150 shoes: Bike: Beemer Auto

Bassendean. Have noticed that winter rides are generally slower, haven't averaged 25 for a while, so rode hard today to give it a shot, and just made it. Maybe the air is thicker in winter - certainly feels like it at times.

HR weird again - very low today despite the harder effort, but I'll put it down to the unreliability of wrist measurement.

Friday Jul 6, 2018 #

Road cycling 2:09:35 [3] 50.53 km (2:34 / km)
ahr:127 max:183 shoes: Bike: Beemer Auto

Around the river, no group today. Beautiful morning, if a touch cold. HR figures a little unusual, not sure why.

Thursday Jul 5, 2018 #

ahr:111 max:156 shoes: Bike: Beemer Auto
