Orienteering race 1:12:33 [3] 4.1 km (17:42 / km)
shoes: Inov-8 X-Talon 2nd pair

H3 course at Lovers Lane, GPS 5.83. Glance at the map showed something more M-like, but appearances can be deceptive - I knew it would be steep, thick and difficult to interpret in places. By the time I got to 3 I realised that rough open was likely to be head high prickly moses and even some of the 100% yellow was overgrown. 4 was an uphill slog, with the most obvious route to 5 being back down again - DUH! Decided to take a safe but very wide route to 6 as I didn't trust the vegetation on the straight route, this cost 3-4 mins. Couldn't really say that 7 was in the right place, but came straight on to it. Promptly stuffed the exit, don't know how I survived the downhill slag heaps, but ended up on a track which I didn't realise was the wrong, lower one. Eventually crossed over the spur and headed into prickly moses hell. At one point I couldn't move, so retreated back uphill. Lost a full 9 mins on this leg. Exhausted by 10 and lost another 2 mins climbing very slowly up to 11. Looked a bit too soon at 13 dropping another 2 mins.

Tough day, but then I probably need that - haven't got much time to build fitness again.

Road cycling 1:28:22 [3] 32.91 km (2:41 / km)
shoes: Bike: Beemer Auto

West Coast ride, but came back along the railway rather than around Dalkeith & Nedlands. Quite a strong headwind going S down the coast, but then it also seemed to be in my face coming back NE along the railway.

Road cycling 2:22:48 [3] 52.02 km (2:45 / km)
shoes: Bike: Beemer Auto

Friday group ride, detour to Nedlands on the way home.

Thursday Aug 24, 2017 #

Running 33:07 [3] 5.01 km (6:37 / km)
shoes: Asics Gel Pursue 2

Hyde Park laps, intended to do 3 double laps but because it was warm I didn't think I would need compression socks; calves started to tighten, so called a halt after 2 double laps.

Road cycling 2:08:33 [3] 49.41 km (2:36 / km)
shoes: Bike: Beemer Auto

Around the river, cold and a little windy.

Tuesday Aug 22, 2017 #

Running 32:26 [3] 5.03 km (6:27 / km)
shoes: Asics Gel Pursue 2

Hyde Park laps.

Monday Aug 21, 2017 #

Road cycling 1:26:53 [3] 32.53 km (2:40 / km)
shoes: Bike: Beemer Auto

Bassendean ride. I'm sure I did almost exactly the same route as the last ride, but gps shows 1km less. Must have been the effect of the gales blowing last Wednesday.

Sunday Aug 20, 2017 #

Orienteering race 29:40 [3] 3.0 km (9:53 / km)
shoes: Inov-8 Oroc 280

SOL Middle Distance at Yetar Springs (gps 3.45km). A bit rusty, and very unfit. Had to walk even the slightest uphill. One mistake at 5 costing me a minute, but otherwise pleased to be only 3 minutes down, and 3rd place on OY.

Friday Aug 18, 2017 #

Road cycling 2:19:33 [3] 48.98 km (2:51 / km)
shoes: Bike: Beemer Auto

Friday group ride, a muffin at last!

Wednesday Aug 16, 2017 #

Road cycling 1:43:47 [3] 33.58 km (3:05 / km)
shoes: Bike: Beemer Auto

To Bassendean and back, horrendous headwind back along the railway line.

Tuesday Aug 15, 2017 #

Running 33:46 [3] 5.11 km (6:36 / km)
shoes: Asics Gel Pursue 2

Still have remnants of cold, but had to get out and do something, so turned up at Kings Park for usual Tuesday group, only to find they've all changed the time on me.

Did the 5km loop, pretty slow and feeling heavy, but worked up a bit of a sweat to hopefully expel what remains of the virus.

Note
(sick)

Saw surgeon last week before heading to Melbourne for 5 days. OK to run and ride now, except that I've picked up a bad cold in Melbourne.
