Monday Aug 29, 2016 #

Road cycling 2:10:16 [3] 48.9 km (2:40 / km)

Around the river with PP, into a South/SW wind, but then a tailwind up the coast.

Orienteering 55:33 [3] 6.7 km (8:17 / km)
shoes: Inov-8 X-Talon 2nd pair

Ran the Short course at MTBO, on picking up the map there weren't too many cross-country options, so I wasn't going to be able to save much distance on the riders. Didn't see anyone who started in front of me, except for a family group at no. 2, but still beat a few of the others to the Finish. Only 15 mins behind the winner, actual distance guess about 8 to 8.5kms.

Friday Aug 26, 2016 #

Road cycling 2:18:00 [3] 50.0 km (2:46 / km)
shoes: Bike: Beemer Auto

Around the river, strong headwind up the coast. Next week should see a bigger group - only 2 of us today.

Wednesday Aug 24, 2016 #

Road cycling 3:10:00 [3] 70.5 km (2:42 / km)
shoes: Bike: Beemer Auto

Around the rivers, including Manning/Shelley/Rossmoyne, met PP at Raffles and we continued from there. No muffins today, had to have a croissant.

Tuesday Aug 23, 2016 #

Road cycling 2:08:21 [3] 49.6 km (2:35 / km)
shoes: Bike: Beemer Auto

Around the river, cold morning but not much wind. 15000kms on the Beemer now.

Sunday Aug 21, 2016 #

Orienteering race 1:05:03 [4] 4.8 km (13:33 / km)
shoes: Inov-8 X-Talon 2nd pair

H3 course at Hill Park Dale, off the pace but not unreasonably so for most of it, but a big time loss of 6-7 mins (along with quite a few others) on a 100m leg in the green from 4-5.

Friday Aug 19, 2016 #

Road cycling 2:27:06 [3] 56.7 km (2:36 / km)
shoes: Bike: Beemer Auto

Friday ride, included Mt Henry as PP and I were early for our meeting with Noel. Muffins and coffee up to the usual standard.

Tuesday Aug 16, 2016 #

Road cycling 2:24:22 [3] 57.2 km (2:31 / km)
shoes: Bike: Beemer Auto

Mt Henry/Swanbourne ride, windy and cool. 4 or 5 dolphins, a couple of pelicans and some cormorants fishing in one of the little bays South of the Narrows.

Sunday Aug 14, 2016 #

Road cycling 3:06:39 [3] 70.5 km (2:39 / km)
shoes: Bike: Beemer Auto

Manning-Shelley-Rossmoyne then on around the river and up the coast to Swanbourne. Beautiful, sunny day but cold to start then a cold Easterly. The Other Side for breakfast - very busy, as was the coast road.

Orienteering race 15:16 [4] 2.1 km (7:16 / km)
shoes: X-Talon 190

State Sprint Champs at ECU Joondalup. Rather than run on the edge as usual, I decided to take the time walking out of each control to make absolutely sure of the route to the next, then run hard. Most of the routes and controls were so easy though, that I should have used my usual method.

Even though I got the recommended winning time (just) I still think anything over 2km is long for M70. Was totally cooked by the second last and could only walk to the last control and finish which were both uphill with stairs.

Well done to mickymaynard - fabulous run. And what were all the guys doing, thrashed by a 15 yo girl and a 70 yo has-been.

Friday Aug 12, 2016 #

Road cycling 2:13:00 [3] 50.1 km (2:39 / km)

Tuesday Aug 9, 2016 #

Road cycling 2:23:00 [3] 50.5 km (2:50 / km)
shoes: Bike: Beemer Auto

Around the river, lots of showers around, but only got caught in one. Breakfast at The Other Side. Slight deviation on the way home to collect Dad's prescription.

Orienteering race 45:56 [4] 2.1 km (21:52 / km)
shoes: Inov-8 Oroc 280

SOL Middle Distance at Malmalling, 1-3 ok, 4 was only 200m, and came quickly to a clearing with bare rock only 50m from the control, but managed somehow to spend 4 mins on that 50m. A little distracted I exited too hastily and then spent 16 mins on the next 200m leg to 5. Saw several others scratching heads in the general area, but we were all 100m too low. Lost a further 3 mins hunting a 1m boulder in thick sheoaks at 8, and then 2 mins more at the last which should have been a doddle.

Orienteering race 46:13 [3] 2.5 km (18:29 / km)
shoes: Inov-8 Oroc 280

Signed up for H3 immediately after the OY debacle and ran the first 5 well to be sitting just behind Noel, and 5 mins (??) ahead of Anthea who made a total meal of no. 2, then did a Henry, going too far along a track to 6 and losing nearly 3 mins. Over the next 5 controls I caught one of those minutes back to Noel, but Anthea was closing fast and I was only 20 secs ahead of her at 11. On the way to 12 I passed a flag on a boulder in a clearing that I'd had on H4 and convinced myself it was the boulder in the next clearing over, so started hunting for 12 150m too early. Hung around the area for 10 minutes before realising what I'd done. Ended up 12 mins behind Noel and 8 behind Anthea and Rob W.

Tuesday Aug 2, 2016 #

Road cycling 1:22:21 [3] 33.0 km (2:30 / km)
shoes: Bike: Beemer Auto

Bassendean, cold and windy.

Monday Aug 1, 2016 #

Road cycling 2:17:00 [3] 50.5 km (2:43 / km)
shoes: Bike: Beemer Auto

Around the river with PP, having to cope with dickhead car drivers again. One in particular passed within 30cm of me doing about 70 km/h along James St outside Rosie O'Grady's (speed limit is 40!). I chased him down knowing the Fitzgerald lights would stop him, told him off and made to go into the adjacent cop shop to give him a bit of a scare.
