Event: Evedon Ridge

Orienteering race 1:00:29 [3] 5.2 km (11:38 / km)
shoes: Inov-8 Oroc 280

Longest course at Evedon (H3). Slow over anything rocky, and super-slow on hills and fence crossings. Had to hunt in the circle two or three times due to non-use of my convenient magnifier. Must get used to remembering it's right there on my compass.

Saturday Mar 29, 2014 #

Orienteering race 14:51 [5] 1.8 km (8:15 / km)
shoes: Inov-8 TrailRoc 255

NavDash Short at Australind. Got confused at the start and lost maybe 15secs at 1. Then got totally confused going to 5, probably at least 1 minute lost. Maybe another 30secs due to poor routes and hesitations over the rest of the course.

Orienteering race 32:43 [4] 3.9 km (8:23 / km)
shoes: Inov-8 TrailRoc 255

Long course at Australind, a few poor routes but no significant nav errors. Ran out of steam at the swamp and slow after that.

Tuesday Mar 25, 2014 #

Running 45:27 [3] 7.9 km (5:45 / km)
shoes: Inov-8 Road-X 255

Kings Park lap, taking it a bit easy as both calves felt tight during daily stretching routine.

MTB Orienteering race 1:53:40 [3] 15.0 km (7:35 / km)
shoes: Bike: GT Avalanche

Banyowla event. Didn't see the wide bitumen route to no. 1, so set off tentatively through very soft pea-gravel. Haven't been off-road for several months, and then it was only a short control-collecting ride, so felt very insecure on anything soft. Unfortunately there was lots of soft! Missed a turn on the way to 1, bad route choice to 2, wasn't sure I'd really found the overgrown track to 5 so went on 100m before coming back. OK from then, until I hit the bitumen on the way to 10 then realised that the road back through the Start was out of bounds, so had to head back into the pea gravel.

Wasn't surprised at the number of dnfs, especially on the Medium, so really glad I did the Short course. Lost by 30 secs to Mike S, but he went through the OOB, but got totally thrashed by Sten on two feet instead of wheels. My time might have been a bit quicker without the bike too, as I was pushing it instead of riding it far more often than I would have liked.

Maybe the end of my MTBO career, certainly won't be going to any more events where there's pea gravel.

Running 39:05 [3] 7.0 km (5:35 / km)
shoes: Inov-8 TrailRoc 255

Kings Park sand tracks. Started slowly but got into a good rhythm after a few hundred metres. Managed to maintain the rhythm (but not quite the 5:20-25 pace) going uphill on the deep sand of the central firebreak - 7-8 mins of pure running hell.

Just before I started a large flock of 100+ black cockatoos flew over Hale oval heading East.

Friday Mar 21, 2014 #

Road cycling 2:20:00 [3] 51.8 km (2:42 / km)
shoes: Bike: Beemer Auto

Around the river, detour due to freeway path closure adds a few hundred metres and several minutes. The Daily crowded as usual.

Thursday Mar 20, 2014 #

Tuesday Mar 18, 2014 #

Event: Giro D'Perth

Road cycling 2:30:00 [3] 40.0 km (3:45 / km)
shoes: Bike: GT Avalanche

Giro D'Perth with PP and Carol. Nice ride around the inner suburbs, route took us right past Rosemary's & Fletchers' houses, and the OWA Shed, and pretty close to Chas', Richard & Nicole's, Anthea's, Toivo's and Trish Tash's. Stopped at Ingredient Tree on Herdy Parade for coffee before the Herdsman Lake circuit. Got all the answers for the 30km route, plus those for the 17km and 11km routes. Time includes stops for clue hunting.

Friday Mar 14, 2014 #

Road cycling 2:18:00 [3] 51.8 km (2:40 / km)
shoes: Bike: Beemer Auto

Around the river, cool with a Southerly, ride up the coast was quick. Not much food left at The Daily, just enough muffins for us.

Thursday Mar 13, 2014 #

Note
(injured)

Started light pole orienteering, but felt right calf start to tighten after around 1km, so stopped and walked back. Hopefully managed to prevent any damage, just like in november when same thing hapened to the left calf but I was running again within a few days.

Tuesday Mar 11, 2014 #

Running 45:05 [3] 7.9 km (5:42 / km)
shoes: Inov-8 Road-X 255

Kings Park lap, just chugging up the hills rather than trying to attack them. What is it with gen x/y? Ran into (almost literally) 3 groups of (mainly female but a couple of blokes) people taking up the whole path. They saw me coming, but did they move to let me pass? Self centred, they probably all text while driving. The 4th group got yelled at and quickly jumped out of the way. Obviously that works so shall use it in future, at the risk of being called a GOM.

Monday Mar 10, 2014 #

Saturday Mar 8, 2014 #

Orienteering race 20:04 [5] 3.3 km (6:05 / km)
shoes: Inov-8 X-Talon 2nd pair

NavDash Short at Joondalup Learning Precinct. Mistake at 3 when I forgot to read description and didn't see that it was upper level - 20-25 secs. Couple of small hesitations elsewhere. Course too long and had no zing over the last third.

Orienteering race 28:24 [4] 4.6 km (6:10 / km)
shoes: Inov-8 X-Talon 2nd pair

NavDash Long - many of the same controls but in different order. Set out to do the course at normal forest O pace rather than sprint, but had pretty much the same splits on the common legs.

Thursday Mar 6, 2014 #

Note
(sick)

Some sort of virus, causing stomach issues and aching bones. Slept most of day.
