Running 42:58 [3] 8.0 km (5:22 / km)
shoes: Asics GT 2150 New

Bridges run from East Perth, including detour around N side of Windan Bridge. Saw a sign that said the work on the S side of the bridge would be completed mid-2012 - don't know what they are doing that would take 10 months (it started in August) but there must be something seriously wrong with the bridge so I won't be riding on the Armadale train line in the next 6 months.

First run (outside of the 5 orienteering events in Vic/NSW) that I've done for almost a month, but felt ok.

Road cycling long 8:40:00 [4] 210.0 km (2:29 / km)
shoes: Bike: Bianchi Coast to Coast

Around the Bay in a Day (anti-clockwise). Got to start at 6pm, but then found they were starting small groups in waves every 4 mins, so it was about 6.45 by the time we started. Weather reasonable over Westgate bridge, but once on the Geelong Freeway we struck a very strong headwind and about 15 mins of horzontal rain into our faces. 1st rest point at about 50km was a godsend, able to get out of the wind for a while. Headwind continued until we turned left at Geelong, and a reasonable tailwind, just staying ahead of the rain until Queenscliff. Arrived at 12.00, and were told the next ferry was 1.00pm. Ferry then late, and in total had a 2hr break allowing for loading and unloading.

Nice stretch from Sorrento up the coast, but then turned inland around Mornington which included a few hills before a nice downhill into Frankston where JB's brother Andrew and dog Jess were waiting at the bottom. Stopped for 10 minutes, then back along the coast with a strong crosswind, occasionally a headwind where the coast road headed NW. Final stop at Mordialloc where we had coffee, chips and an energy bar before facing the last 30km. This was right along the beach where the cross/head wind was stongest - a real struggle. The last 3km a big relief as we turned right into the city with the wind behind us. Tough day, but enjoyed the achievement.

Ride around Philip Island.

Orienteering race 29:40 [5] 3.4 km (8:44 / km)
shoes: ASICS GT2130 (new)

Oceania Relays, 1st leg. Tough race with NZ M60 (Dave M) on my hammer for the first half, then chasing AUS M60 (Adrian U) for 2nd half. Just managed to outsprint both of them in the finish chute, and setting up the WA team for M65 win.

Saturday Oct 8, 2011 #

Orienteering race 39:10 [5] 4.6 km (8:31 / km)
shoes: Inov-8 Oroc 280

Australian Long champs - much, much better! Only one error at 2, costing about a minute. Lack of fitness telling over the last 3rd of the course which was simple orienteering in much more open terrain. Yesterday's sprint would have been much better, and today would have improved if the areas had been swapped. Beaten by Kiwi (30 secs) so resident champ again. GPS 5.37km.

Road cycling 56:00 [3] 21.0 km (2:40 / km)
shoes: Bike: Bianchi Coast to Coast

Short spin out from Cooma on the quietest road we could find. Long hill at the start, then rolling plains. Turned around at just under 11km and came back with the wind and the downhill 12 mins faster than the outward leg.

Orienteering race 19:48 [4] 1.4 km (14:09 / km)
shoes: Inov-8 Oroc 280

Oceania Sprint champs. Blew 1st control yet again, and out of top 10 place after another blip at 2. Overshot again at 6, losing another couple of minutes. GPS 2.3km!

Event: Jumbuck Hill

Orienteering race 1:05:03 [3] 4.9 km (13:17 / km)
shoes: Inov-8 Oroc 280

Oceania Long Champs, continuous rain, not really into it at all. GPS 5.9km, mistakes at 1 and 3, probably took wrong choice on long leg to 4. After 4 the course was fairly easy.

Saturday Oct 1, 2011 #

Orienteering race 1:02:43 [3] 2.9 km (21:38 / km)
shoes: Inov-8 Oroc 280

Oceania Middle Champs, total disaster with 15 mins to 1st control, then never in control at all. GPS 4.45km.
