Orienteering race 56:53 [4] 7.2 km (7:54 / km)
shoes: Inov8 Mudclaw 330

Long course at Whiteman Park, gps 8.73km. Tripped about 1km from the finish and done some damage to right upper chest - probably a cracked rib going by the amount of pain.

Road cycling 3:40:00 [3] 83.0 km (2:39 / km)
shoes: Bike: Bianchi Coast to Coast

Around the Bay in a Day training: same ride as previous 2 weeks, except we went further, down to Anketell Rd, then via Mandogolup Rd, Rowley Rd and Moylan Rd to rejoin the previous route at the Cockburn Cement works on Russell Rd. Nice rural area with market gardens and turf farms on quiet roads. Brekkie at La Vespa again.

Orienteering race 26:25 [4] 2.8 km (9:26 / km)
shoes: Inov-8 Oroc 280

Leg 1 of club relays at Pre-Frazzle. Went too wide avoiding climb to no.1, passed Juffy scratching his head between 3 & 4, he soon came past again, but managed to keep him and Andre in sight until no. 13. GPS 3.23km.

Orienteering race 28:44 [4] 2.8 km (10:16 / km)
shoes: Inov-8 Oroc 280

3rd leg, after Richard put us into 2nd. Shotrat came steaming past after the spectator control, and got clear when I climbed over the hill from 11 instead of going around. He got very clear when I couldn't find 12 for 2-3 minutes and made further mistakes on 13 & 14. GPS 3.31.

Richard put us back into 2nd, but then banged his noggin at the drinks control and couldn't continue with blood streaming into his eyes.

Event: Mt Billy

Orienteering race 57:45 [4] 6.0 km (9:38 / km)
shoes: Inov-8 Oroc 280

OY race at Mt Billy, could have done H4 but chose H3. The first half was mostly slow and steep, a lot of crap vegetation around. After crossing back over Yarra Rd it was faster. The courses were just not up to H standard, I think the setter simply 'does not get it' and should retire (or be retired by his club). GPS 6.55, pretty straight so pleased with that. 5 mins behind Joe D - young legs would have been good on this course.

Road cycling 2:13:45 [3] 54.48 km (2:27 / km)
shoes: Bike: Bianchi Coast to Coast

Around the river via Mosman. Hooray - Preston Pt Rd has been resurfaced.

shoes: Asics GT 2150 New

Sunday Jul 10, 2011 #

Road cycling 3:19:32 [3] 72.89 km (2:44 / km)
shoes: Bike: Bianchi Coast to Coast

Around the Bay in a Day training: down the freeway path to Russell Rd, across to Woodman Point then up the coastal path to South Fremantle. Stopped for coffee at a nice patisserie in South Terrace (La Vespa - I was wearing the right cap). Through the centre of Freo, then to Port Beach, Swanbourne, Subi and home. Russell Rd was a surprise - nice ride with good surface and rural scenes. Quiet on Sundays, but probably used by lots of trucks on weekdays.

Road cycling 1:20:00 [3] 31.0 km (2:35 / km)
shoes: Bike: Bianchi Coast to Coast

Easy ride to Bassendean.

MTB Orienteering race 42:24 [3] 8.51 km (4:59 / km)
shoes: Bike: GT Avalanche

Enter on day course 3 at State Middle champs. Didn't see control 3 on the map (a dog-leg, way out of my vision) and went straight from 2 to 4.

Event: Red Hill

Orienteering race 42:49 [4] 6.47 km (6:37 / km)
shoes: Inov8 X Talon 212

SWOT race at Greenbushes, another Scatter course, but half the controls were in an old mining area, quite complex. Fell again, tripped over a rock, almost planted my face on another one, gashed my finger and right shin. This happened at my 2nd control where I had arrived at the same time as Anthea and Mr Nesky, but it was their first. I was a bit winded, and Henry and Anthea sprinted off back to the control I had already picked up. I should have beaten them to the next one, but made a mistake, not seeing a laneway, and Henry arrived at the next one at the same time as me all square, Anthae about 30m back. Then Henry just motored away. Caught him briefly two controls later where there was a queue of kids all punching slowly - Henry tried to muscle in but their Dad told him off so we all had to wait. After that I was with Anthea and Rob W through the first part of the mining detail, but managed to sneak away when we separated looking for a cliff in the green and I luckily found it first and never saw them again. Apparently though Anthea nearly caught me but then made another mistake. This time I was about 4 mins behind Henry at the Finish.

Orienteering race 47:48 [4] 6.32 km (7:34 / km)
shoes: Inov8 X Talon 212

SWOT event at Bridgetown, mainly streets but with a few small bush areas, and a gravel path around the river. Crossing a wooden footbridge over a side gully, even the X-talons couldn't grip on the wet timber and I ended up with bad gravel rash on my right elbow. Had a reasonable route, haven't really looked at the course yet. Lost by 2 minutes to Mr Nesky, but he also had to run an extra km after finishing one control short.
