Running 47:47 [3] 8.9 km (5:22 / km)
shoes: Asics GT 2150 New

Bridges and Heirisson run - only did the West side of Heirisson.

Tuesday Mar 29, 2011 #

Running 41:47 [4] 7.9 km (5:17 / km)
shoes: Asics GT 2150 New

Kings Park - warm and humid again.

Sunday Mar 27, 2011 #

Running hills 45:52 [3] 7.93 km (5:47 / km)
shoes: Asics GT 2150 New

Reabold run, hills were a struggle, sandy bits not too pleasant - oh for some precipitation to firm them up a bit.

Saturday Mar 26, 2011 #

Road cycling 1:48:00 [3] 43.0 km (2:31 / km)
shoes: Bike: Bianchi Coast to Coast

Bassendean - same ride as last week, sans coffee stop.

Orienteering race 15:11 [5] ** 2.6 km (5:50 / km)
spiked:9/10c shoes: Inov8 X Talon 212

Nav Dash at UWA, gps route 3.09. One route choice error - didn't see the passage route out of 5, and backed out around the garden, probably added 40m and 20 secs. Very hot, and was slowing at the end, will probably lose the finish split by a decent margin.

Running 41:23 [4] 7.9 km (5:14 / km)
shoes: Asics GT 2150 New

Kings Park run, around 26-27C but humid. Little bit quicker than the last time, 2 weeks ago.

Road cycling 3:03:51 [3] 68.17 km (2:42 / km)
shoes: Bike: Bianchi Coast to Coast

Hills ride with JB - Welshpool Rd, then across to Aldersyde, up Mundaring Weir Rd to Kalamunda and breakfast at Le Croissant du Moulin in Gooseberry Hill. At this stage we had done 37.3km in 1:54 for an average of just under 20kmh. Then down the Zig-Zag, through the back way to Guildford and then alongside the railway to East Perth and home. Saw a couple of guys on mtbs with map boards in Guildford looking lost - looked a bit like Wally actually. Much faster on the downhill run - 30.9km in 1:09.

What is it with the Shire of Kalamunda that all their road surfaces are so dead? Pomeroy Rd, Lawnbrook Rd and Mundaring Weir Rd are all bad, and they've just relaid Aldersyde Rd, where it looks like they put down the biggest aggregate they could find, then forgot to add bitumen and roll it.

Road cycling 1:54:44 [3] 43.5 km (2:38 / km)
shoes: Bike: Bianchi Coast to Coast

Over Narrows, South Perth, Burswood, Maylands, Bassendean, nice coffee on the way home at Sherbet.

Running 51:40 [3] 8.74 km (5:55 / km)
shoes: Asics GT 2150 New

Run on sand/limestone trails at Maidens Park, Bunbury. A lot sandier than when I was last there in September, slow going at times, and even walked for about 30m on one very steep hill with deep sand.

Tuesday Mar 15, 2011 #

Running 36:35 [3] 6.0 km (6:06 / km)
shoes: Asics GT 2150 New

Short course at Kings Park. Had previously said I wouldn't do an evening run if it was over 28C - tonight was 34C at 5pm, so this was a jog, not a run.

Orienteering intervals 30:00 [5] 6.0 km (5:00 / km)
shoes: Asics GT 2150 New

Ran every leg of M21E course flat out, rest between each leg while Russell walked to the next control. Bit of warm-up and retracing of legs to try different routes. Time and distance are imaginary to fool the over-curious and boost my log.

Saturday Mar 12, 2011 #

Orienteering race 21:59 [5] **** 2.3 km (9:33 / km)
shoes: Inov8 X Talon 212

Nav Dash race at Brigadoon. Lost 4 mins going off the map near the second-last control, couple of wobbles elsewhere. Garmin distance 2.85km.

Thursday Mar 10, 2011 #

Running 56:45 [3] 10.5 km (5:24 / km)
shoes: Asics GT 2150 New

Bridges and full lap of Heirisson. I've been praying for the Fremantle Doctor for several weeks, and it certainly came in today. I'd forgotten how much of a hard slog it is to run 3.5km into a stiff Souwester down the Burswood side of the river and out to the West end of the Island.

Tuesday Mar 8, 2011 #

Running 41:43 [4] 7.9 km (5:17 / km)
shoes: Asics GT 2150 New

Kings Park, cooler (24C) with a good Freo Dr blowing, so I knew that the time was going to be quicker than the past several weeks. Still a long way off my target below 40 before Easter.

Monday Mar 7, 2011 #

Running hills 47:43 [4] 8.7 km (5:29 / km)
shoes: Asics GT 2150 New

Hills run at Reabold from YMCA. Cool enough to make it a pleasant run. Thought we'd check out the Cottesloe sculptures afterwards, but couldn't get within a mile of the beach - gridlock from Eric St Southwards - so we gave up. Tried a few other places for breakfast, but either closed or chockers, so we went home for scrambled eggs.

Sunday Mar 6, 2011 #

Road cycling 2:16:24 [3] 53.0 km (2:34 / km)
shoes: Bike: Bianchi Coast to Coast

Around the river with JB.

Saturday Mar 5, 2011 #

Road cycling 1:33:25 [3] 33.8 km (2:46 / km)
shoes: Bike: Bianchi Coast to Coast

Out to Bassendean with JB - just ambling, in low range most of the way.

Orienteering race 16:43 [5] *** 2.3 km (7:16 / km)
spiked:14/16c shoes: Inov8 X Talon 212

Sprint race at Curtin Uni. Punched wrong no. 1, needed to have taken a bit more care on 1st leg, didn't help that I couldn't find the control number. It was there, but not immediately obvious. One little glitch of about 10 secs at no. 8, and would have had best time but for the mispunch. Good course, with a particularly difficult section right at the end to trap the unwary and tired.

Garmin distance was 2.99, extra distance to the wrong control was 100m. Didn't think I took particularly wide routes, so don't know how I managed to run 600m more than the setter's measurement.

Thursday Mar 3, 2011 #

Road cycling 1:25:03 [3] 35.1 km (2:25 / km)
shoes: Bike: Bianchi Coast to Coast

Ride over to Dad's in Bull Creek: 17.1km in 44:08 against the Southerly, 18km in 40:55 coming home in the dark. Why do people wander along the middle of the Freeway path at night, dressed in black and with ipods in their ears?

Tuesday Mar 1, 2011 #

Running 43:26 [4] 7.9 km (5:30 / km)
shoes: Asics GT 2150 New

Kings Park, yet another hot evening (34C). Really struggled to a) choose the longer route, and b) not start walking several times.

I think I'm heat stressed, and won't run again unless it is 22C or less for morning runs, or 28C or less for evening runs (Nav Dash excepted). Might try the bike instead.
