Orienteering race 1:12:40 [3] 3.9 km (18:38 / km)
shoes: X-Talon 190

Australian relays, first leg. Warm day, did well to 1, then a small mistake at 2, followed by a bigger one at 3. At this stage I was definitely back in the middle of the field with 3 other sandgropers. Got past them to the control before the spectator but then made another error, and the breathing problem came back in a big way. Staggered through the run-through, stopping for a minute to have a big drink, then recovered a bit on the next long, mostly downhill leg. The spasms came back big-time as soon as the course went up hill again. My head started spinning, and couldn't focus on the very detailed erosion gullies in the 2nd half of the course. Sat still for a while, but each time I tried to move, it came back. Eventually made it very slowly through the last 3 controls and handed over well behind most of the field.

Orienteering race 32:14 [3] 2.9 km (11:07 / km)
shoes: X-Talon 190

Australian Middle Champs at Renmark. Started slowly, but didin't do me much good as I botched the first, finding it hard to tell the difference between white and yellow (I wasn't the only one). Steady thereafter but speeding up a bit from 8-12 where I passed two sandgropers, but then a spasm came and I stuffed up 13, not really able to think while I was trying to get some air. Lost about 3 mins before I was able to breathe again, then another 2 relocating and climbing up to the control. Ran slowly over the last section knowing I was going to be a bit down the field.

Turns out I was 2nd at 12, had no chance of catching my kiwi mate - he was over a minute ahead, but could have got a place but for the spasm.

Event: Lovers Lane

Orienteering race 1:07:23 [3] 3.2 km (21:03 / km)
shoes: Inov-8 X-Talon 2nd pair

H4 course at Lovers Lane. Can't get the tomtom to download, so no idea of actual distance. Major stuff-ups at 4 and 9, both on features that I've had problems with in the past, so no excuse really. At least it was a bit of a workout.

Running 21:55 [3] 3.5 km (6:16 / km)
shoes: Asics Gel Pursue 2

First run in ages, after physio cleared the quad. Didn't have time for bike anyway, after returning from 3 days in Narrogin.

Yokine Reserve, taking it pretty easy and surprised that the pace wasn't a lot closer to 7 than 6.

Road cycling 1:49:00 [3] 39.99 km (2:44 / km)
shoes: Bike: Beemer Auto

Bassendean ride, but started in Osborne Park after taking the car in for a pre-Nullarbor service (one was due anyway). Pissing down when I got to Frobisher St, but it had virtually stopped by the time I'd changed shoes, got the bike out of the car and discussed what needed doing to the car with the service technician.

Realised straight away that I'd forgotten my bottle and lights, so rode home, picked them up and then continued to Bassendean and home again with no rain whatsoever.

Now have to wait and hope it's not raining when I go to pick the car up this afternoon.

Road cycling 35:00 [3] 11.25 km (3:07 / km)
shoes: Bike: Beemer Auto

To West Perth, then Osborne Park.

Road cycling 2:12:31 [3] 49.69 km (2:40 / km)
shoes: Bike: Beemer Auto

Waited until the afternoon when the rain was supposed to be gone. Nice and sunny when I set out around the river, but approaching Pt Walter it got dark and started raining. Continued until Fremantle so got quite wet. Rain was threatening but didn't eventuate after that.

Road cycling 2:54:46 [3] 62.91 km (2:47 / km)
shoes: Bike: Beemer Auto

Around the river, by way of Curtin Uni first, then Mt Henry. Strong SSWly, so not much fun until after Fremantle.

Orienteering 50:03 [3] 3.2 km (15:38 / km)
shoes: Inov-8 X-Talon 2nd pair

Walking H4 course at Gunapin, gps 3.64kms and 2 mins less. The Master SI station was 2 mins fast, but you would think the start and finish bricks would both be out as well. Maybe the start brick didn't get sync'd.

Slow as, had to be careful of the quad with foot placements in rocky terrain with a fair bit of fallen timber, but still came 2nd! One minor mistake near the end, going up the very rocky spur to 10, the theory being to climb early, but it was very slow with rock and fallen timber; straight with a climb at the end would have been better. No way that control was a gully either on the map or on the ground - should have been described as 'between cliffs'.
