Orienteering race 37:45 [3] 5.7 km (6:37 / km)
shoes: Asics Gel Pursue 2

Metro race at Peppermint Grove, first O with the new Garmin was a fail. I started it, but the face went back to clock pretty quickly. I knew this was in the activity settings, as it happened before on the bike and I'd changed the bike settings but not the run settings. I just ignored it because the time it happened on the bike still recorded the whole activity so I assumed the run would be the same, but when I looked afterwards there was just 19 seconds-worth of activity.

So, distance a guess, thought I had a reasonable route but I hadn't spotted 1,2,5 & 6 close together in the North of the map, so Ameko's route was probably better. Mine was 14,15,18,27,22,23,24,25,30,20,21,19,11,8,12,17,15,13.

Holding the event in conjunction with the rogaine didn't improve the numbers as far as I can tell, so next year our event should be on the Sunday.

Around the river via Mt Henry.

Sunday Nov 20, 2016 #

Orienteering race 40:40 [4] 7.0 km (5:49 / km)
shoes: Inov-8 TrailRoc 255

Metro 45 minute Score event at Forrestfield. Switched my watch to stopwatch mode, then pressed a button when I started. After 7 controls I checked the watch, which said a big fat zero - I'd pressed another button instead of the start button. Best guess at the time I'd been out on the course was 20 minutes, so I picked a conservative route from there. Turns out I overestimated by 5 minutes, and probably could have got at least 2 more controls, and possibly three with the time I had to spare.

Nice course, and the concept was good, may have been better with a range of points rather than all controls having the same value.

Saturday Nov 19, 2016 #

Road cycling 1:19:00 [3] 34.0 km (2:19 / km)

Sunday Nov 13, 2016 #

Road cycling 1:55:45 [3] 42.0 km (2:45 / km)
shoes: Bike: Beemer Auto

Saturday Nov 12, 2016 #

Road cycling 1:18:27 [3] 35.0 km (2:14 / km)
shoes: Bike: Beemer Auto

Bassendean ride. Path between Swanview Terrace and Garratt Rd has a lovely new surface - but they've ruined it by putting series of raised lines every 100m or so, presumably to deter cyclists from taking advantage of the fast new surface.

Friday Nov 11, 2016 #

Saturday Nov 5, 2016 #

Orienteering race 35:49 [4] 5.5 km (6:31 / km)
shoes: Asics Gel Pursue 2

Metro race at Joondalup. I sensed that up hill from the start was a good move, and headed back up through the car park with not too many others - the mob all seem to have headed South to 1. Turns out the best move would have been the long run along the lake to 26. Once up the hill it seemed best to clean up all the Northern controls, but a count revealed that coming back down and along the lake would leave me one short, so decided to leave the 3 lakeside controls and take a long leg back through the control-less centre of the map to pick up my last 4. On reflection, 1 was so close to the start that perhaps the 3 lakeside ones and then run past the start to 1 would have been better.

Route was 4-5-27-18-17-16-22-24-21-29-19-30-20-28-12-3-2-1. Missed the gap just West of 18 and had to take a longer way round to 17.
