Wednesday Sep 28, 2016 #

Road cycling 2:58:16 [3] 70.5 km (2:32 / km)
shoes: Bike: Beemer Auto

Two rivers ride. Can't remember ever having to wait at the level crossing on Tydeman Rd, but it happened today, quite a long train too. Cold Southerly, but enjoyable ride up the coast with the wind.

Monday Sep 26, 2016 #

Road cycling 2:21:32 [3] 56.7 km (2:30 / km)
shoes: Bike: Beemer Auto

Mt Henry/Swanbourne ride, windy and cool. The Other Side was only serving coffee in paper cups, and muffins in a paper bag because of the public holiday.

Saturday Sep 24, 2016 #

Road cycling 2:01:48 [3] 49.6 km (2:27 / km)
shoes: Bike: Beemer Auto

Around the river, cold winds.

Wednesday Sep 21, 2016 #

Road cycling 2:09:00 [3] 50.2 km (2:34 / km)
shoes: Bike: Beemer Auto

Around the river, met Noel at East Freo for the ride up to The Other Side. Nice day, feels like September at last.

Tuesday Sep 20, 2016 #

Road cycling 3:10:00 [3] 72.0 km (2:38 / km)
shoes: Bike: Beemer Auto

Two rivers/coast ride, ie Freeway to Mt Henry, around the Canning River to Shelley bridge via Manning and back to Mt Henry via Rossmoyne, then the usual ride around the Swan including the coast to Swanbourne.

Monday Sep 19, 2016 #

Road cycling 20:00 [3] 8.0 km (2:30 / km)

Osborne Park to home after dropping the car for service.

Road cycling 18:00 [3] 8.0 km (2:15 / km)
shoes: Bike: Beemer Auto

Back to Ossy Park for the car, decided to make a bit of an effort.

Sunday Sep 18, 2016 #

Road cycling 1:55:58 [3] 43.8 km (2:39 / km)
shoes: Bike: Beemer Auto

West Coast ride, incl. Oceanic Drive and Reabold, then a small deviation to The Other Side where surprisingly they still had muffins at 11am. Back vis the Nedlands loop.

Saturday Sep 17, 2016 #

Road cycling 2:41:45 [3] 64.0 km (2:32 / km)
shoes: Bike: Beemer Auto

To Shelley Bridge then on to Roe Highway and back to the Kwinana Freeway.

Road cycling 2:12:53 [3] 50.5 km (2:38 / km)
shoes: Bike: Beemer Auto

Around the river, no group today but the cafe had saved 4 zucchini muffins for us. Pity I couldn't eat all of them.

Wednesday Sep 14, 2016 #

Road cycling 1:25:00 [3] 32.4 km (2:37 / km)
shoes: Bike: Beemer Auto

Bassendean with PP, cool and windy.

Tuesday Sep 13, 2016 #

Road cycling 2:05:39 [3] 49.7 km (2:32 / km)
shoes: Bike: Beemer Auto

Around the river, SE headwind on the freeway path, swung around to NE by the time I reached Freo, so headwinds for 2/3 of the ride. Quiet at The Other Side, except that everyone who was there seemed to have one or more dogs with them.

Orienteering race 54:52 [4] 3.8 km (14:26 / km)
shoes: X-Talon 190

WA Long Distance Champs at Stonebrook. 1 was just a run down the track and finding the right entry point into the mullock-heaps. 2 was really too easy but couldn't make a decision to climb up go and look behind the right heap without circling around it and wasting a good 40 secs as well as giving it away to PD who started 2 mins ahead of me. 3 a track run followed by cliff climbing. Did another 2 mins at 4 where I stupidly didn't use my compass in the run across the paddock and found 10 (useful later ;-). Didn't use the compass again at 5, and wasted another minute or so climbing over a spur that I needn't have. 5-6 aimed for the patches of yellow and hoped (without much expectation of success) to spot one or two of Juffy's root mounds. Didn't see them, so dropped down to just above the stream and tracked along it but then had to go through a particularly nasty patch of prickly moses to get to the flag. Could see the hill in front of 7, so that was easy, but leaving it wasn't with all the green before reaching the track above 8. Went around in the yellow to 9 (but quite a bit of it not yellow any longer) - straight was probably a better option. Seemed to take forever to track along the stream and past the new dam before reaching the paddock half-way to 10, then it was just a plod up the hill. 11 was a nice downhill run and found it easily, but then made a mistake by running down to the main track, when I should have turned and climbed back over the spur. Ran too far along the track and then up the wrong paddock (past 13 though I didn't see it) all the way to a huge earth bank that I thought was the edge of the dam but turned out to be the edge of the track up to the start. Had to turn around and bash through horrendous green to get to the dam, then had to go around that to the control - another 2 mins blown. 12 to the finish all straightforward, found the last control in the green patch easily enough, but it seems to have caused lots of problems for others.

Had another win and maintained dominance over the junior supervets. BUT - 12 mins behind Anthea!

Orienteering race 30:52 [4] 2.9 km (10:39 / km)
shoes: X-Talon 190

State Middle Distance Champs, 90 degree error at the start and then did not correct enough. Couldn't seem to match the ground to the map at all, but once I got it sorted (after at least 2 minutes) the map was fine. Probably did another 30 secs at 4 and 9, will have to wait to see the splits, but otherwise a pretty good run to win M70 and beat all the 65s. 4 minutes behind Anthea however.

Sunday Sep 4, 2016 #

Orienteering race 1:00:15 [4] 5.3 km (11:22 / km)
shoes: Inov-8 X-Talon 2nd pair

H3 at Mt Billy, using the faster, but less complex area North of Ball Rd. Misplaced control at 7, where I should have spent less time searching and guessed where it was likely to be - about 2.30-3.00 mins lost. After that I bumbled around a bit on shorter legs to 9, 10, and 13 - especially 10. Finished 2nd, 5 mins down on Russell W, not sure why the setter made us climb up the steep escarpment twice, seems I lost most of my time to Russell on those two legs.

Road cycling 3:12:38 [3] 70.7 km (2:43 / km)
shoes: Bike: Beemer Auto

PP wanted to lie in and start the Friday ride late, so I left earlier and added the Shelley loop. Arrived at The Other Side a couple of minutes behind, but we were too late for muffins. Detour to Hopetoun Terrace to pick up some concert tickets, but we got the wrong ones.
