Road cycling 2:10:00 [3] 50.9 km (2:33 / km)
shoes: Bike: Beemer Auto

Around the river, a few hoons out today on both two and four wheels, and even one on 3 - a helmetless bloke towing his kid (with helmet) up the path at Port & Leighton scattering pedestrians in his path. The usual mad roadies on the wrong side of the freeway path, a speeder cutting us off at a roundabout in Cott, and then cutting another car off at the next roundabout. Finally a road rager who blocked the pedestrian crossing at the Thomas St Farmer freeway exit and abused me roundly for mildly remonstrating with him. PP stopped to take a photo of him so we might dob him.

Coffee at The Daily, crowded as usual.

Around the river, had to detour at Melville Beach, then PP got a puncture just after the Freo river crossing. Crowded at The Daily.

Road cycling 1:30:00 [3] 33.8 km (2:40 / km)
shoes: Bike: Beemer Auto

Bassendean ride. Very slow along the Roe St path and through McIver with 3-4 minute waits at various road crossings and commuters on the wrong side of the path riding like they were in a velodrome trying to beat Anna Meares. Then after McIver it started raining! (Yes, rain! Amazing, blue sky all around, just a solitary little black cloud right above our heads.) The path immediately became an ice rink and I almost stacked it when having to brake at the bottom of the slope going down to join the river path to Maylands at Windan Bridge where a woman was right at the junction trying to pick up her two poodles instead of just pulling them out of the way with the leads.

The rain didn't last long, but the path was wet all the way through to Tranby House, where the little black cloud had moved off across the river to Belmont.

Rest of the ride was largely uneventful, but I wish they would stop cars from blocking the bike crossings on the South side of the railway at the Collier Rd, Ashfield and Grand Prom railway crossings by making them all stay North of the line when the lights are red.

Orienteering race 23:45 [4] 4.88 km (4:52 / km)
shoes: Inov-8 TrailRoc 255

Metro Series at Maylands, good route, ran harder than at recent events - mainly because I was in a big bunch at the start, then had tussles at various times with Andrew, Oliver, Kjell and Lee (all doing different, and I'd guess longer routes). 4th place at the end, behind Lee but just pipping Oliver, so got back the points that Chip gained while I was setting last week.

Forgot to turn the garmin on, but ran exactly the same route as Sten so have taken his distance.

Friday Feb 7, 2014 #

Road cycling 2:15:00 [3] 51.3 km (2:38 / km)
shoes: Bike: Beemer Auto

Around the river, half the normal crew missing so much easier to find a table in The Daily than usual.

Thursday Feb 6, 2014 #

Orienteering 18:37 [4] 3.81 km (4:53 / km)
shoes: Inov-8 Road-X 255

Sprint training at UWA - follow John exercise with Kjell. Took a couple of roundabout routes but didn't fool him.

Orienteering 15:29 [4] 3.09 km (5:01 / km)
shoes: Inov-8 Road-X 255

2nd follow John course with Kjell - tried again, failed again. Both good workouts. Something wrong with either the Garmin or QR. QR download from the Garmin gives the times correct but measurements of 3.8km and 3.1km for the 2 activities, whereas the Garmin display gives 2.96km and 2.79km respectively.

Have used the QR distances because 3 hrs later it certainly feels like I ran that fast and far!
