Urban Orienteering race 40:40 [5] 5.8 mi (7:01 / mi) +10m 6:58 / mi
Crewe Urban, course 1, 40:40, 2nd
Pretty pleased, nav was good and avoided any traps, just a few minor hesistancies.
Was moving quite and fast by the end, but took about 10 controls for my legs to get going, although being a while since last urban, took it a bit easier to begin with anyway.
Some route choices maybe slightly sub optimal in post race analysis, but none very decisively, a matter of seconds here and there.
Course was good, but as discussed with Richard, map very cluttered with unnecessary uncrossables all over the place.
Shadowed Charlotte round course 4 so should pass comment on the controversery, all those cheating should be ashamed, whilst the controller has gone into detail on the background etc., sadly he has been too harsh on himself and not strong enough in criticising those who cheated. As I recall, they must have done well to punch through the fence concerned as it didn't seem the type you could get an arm through. As soon as you see the control on the other side of a fence these people must realise they are the wrong side of the fence.
I made this mistake at both Otley and Becketts last year and backtracked as soon as I saw the control other side of fence. Although this is an extreme example as the way round was looonnngg, that's no excuse.
I think the control placement was fine, maybe could have been sighted arms length from the fence, or even marshalled, but it was a better leg than any on my course. So many people have Garmins etc these days I wonder if all on course 4 would allow their traces to be seen?
