Running warm up/down 18:00 [3] 2.0 mi (9:00 / mi) +110m 7:41 / mi

Deja Vu covering first 1 and a half miles of last weeks trek to Graves, then a bit of an out and back in the park
9 AM

Running race 17:02 [5] 3.1 mi (5:30 / mi) +75m 5:07 / mi

Sheffield Castle parkrun (#65) - 1st, 17:02, course record

A good run at last.
Funny park this, nice paths but just wasteland in the middle
3 laps, the second half of which comprises short sharp hill, longer steep down hill, then a 500m grind up back to the start.
Ran a good hard pace and held it well, if it wasn't for the pedestrian start (!) and swerving to lap buggies and people would have gone sub 17. Not sure why I've been given 16:53, perhaps rounding up all the seconds lost in the previous 65 parkruns? ;-)
Hill was tough, good training, managed to kick off the top each time, and felt like I was moving fast.
Conditions were grim, started raining after 4 mins, got harder, turned into hail, and was thrashing it down by the end.
Only 34 finishers, so the smallest I've done after Rotherham.
Given Graves is up the road, I know which one I'd do!!

Running warm up/down 11:00 [3] 1.5 mi (7:20 / mi)

All downhill back to the station

Running 34:38 [3] 4.8 mi (7:13 / mi) +20m 7:07 / mi

To Matt's and back. Felt reasonable. He carried onto Burley Moor. I was absolutely not tempted to do the same.

Running warm up/down 15:00 [3] 2.1 mi (7:09 / mi) +70m 6:28 / mi

Shipley to Thackley. Raining again.
7 PM

Orienteering 45:44 [3] 4.1 mi (11:09 / mi) +130m 10:09 / mi

Buck Wood Night Score - 6th, 120pts, 45:44

80% decent.
Big error after collecting first control, wasted time trying to thrash through Bracken after path I was on disintegrated. Had to retrace steps. Covered rest of map except far control very well really. Exceptionally muddy.

Got back just as Dave did and so we both ran to first control on 2nd map, I managed to nail this which was a boost and thought I was on for a good one when I hit the next one spot on as well. All went wrong again to the next control, I can see now I misread the map, though still feel the bloody massive pylons should be on it! Eventually found it. Aimed to get most NW control but despite being probably 50m away decided to try and get back on time so turned up the hill rather than down. Also then missed the control I could have swung by on the way home. With those two and if I had read the map correctly this would have been good.

6 races in the first 8 days of 2014, help!!

Urban Orienteering race 1:12:53 [4] 10.7 mi (6:49 / mi) +10m 6:48 / mi

MDOC Timperley Score - 4th

Eastern half of the map, i.e. first 45 minutes was good.
Can't help going clockwise, anyone else have this problem?
Western half no idea what was going on, just sort of floated through it and there was a much better route to be had picking more points.
Also had to have a toilet stop.
Was very wary of leaving myself too much to do and cut short intended route as well.
75 minutes seemed a very long time.

Like everything recently, could do better.

Running 19:20 [3] 3.0 mi (6:27 / mi) +30m 6:15 / mi

Run to Esholt, fairly fast as was late
12 PM

Orienteering race 58:41 [4] 4.5 mi (13:02 / mi) +100m 12:12 / mi

Esholt Middle Distance, Blue, 17th - 58:41

Had some nightmares at Esholt in the pace, so this was an improvement.
Only one issue, but a big one, lost about 5 mins to #10, should have come in from below but aimed from above, couldn't find path, faffed, thrashed, took wrong path and eventually came in from below anyway.
Couple of minor slips elsewhere but nothing serious.
Main issue was my legs wouldn't carry me, a fair bit of walking involved and felt totally shattered at end, which shouldn't have been the case.

Following 2 poor 10k's and the amount of training I've done I've worn myself down so my head isn't right for what I want to do, now my legs have seemingly given up the ghost too. Not a great start to the year. I think I'm going to have to have some time doing very little and take it from there.
