6 PM

Running 35:00 [3] 5.2 mi (6:44 / mi) +40m 6:34 / mi

Planned on doing the Otley/Burley triangle.
Heading down to Otley, approaching the tip, a van coming out of the yard let me past. Kept running as a motorbike pased the other way. All of a sudden there was a multiple screech and a thud. Turned round to see the motorcyclist on the deck, his bike having the van.
Shouted to a woman in the tip to phone an ambulance and ran up to the bloke. Swift worry crossed my mind of what I would find, but no blood, he was consicous and groaning. Kept him still and talking while the ambulance was summoned.
As a busy road, the traffic backed up, as more people came on the scene, eventually numbering a GP and two A&E nurses. The ambulance arrived after about 15 mins, and I gave the police my details and set off back home, to tell Charlotte I hadn't really finished my run. Then did an out and back down Bleach Mill.
Didn't notice the guy going too fast, but seems he lost control as the van was on the right side of the road when the impact happened. A man came up from Otley saying he had to pull out of the way when he saw the motorcyclist come into view in his rear view mirror. Despite the accident being visible from the Menston end, a few drivers still felt fit to beep or screech off in the opposite direction having turned around.
Makes you think.

Running 46:00 [3] 6.2 mi (7:25 / mi) +50m 7:14 / mi

11 AM

Urban Orienteering 46:20 [4] 6.8 mi (6:49 / mi) +45m 6:41 / mi

Southwell Urban - 1st, 46.20

Kept pace fairly relaxed, though found myself running a good pace, which was pleasing. Navigation easy enough, made a couple of bad route choices trying to be a bit clever in the first half, so kept things straightforward in the second half. Good fun.

Running 18:59 [5] 3.1 mi (6:07 / mi) +125m 5:27 / mi

Wepre parkrun - 1st, 18.59
Finally pulled this one from the bad having kept it up my sleeve for a rainy day *i.e. lunchtime KO
Wasn't too fussed about flogging myself after racing Weds, just running at a decent tempo.
Let the kids run off and found myself at the front after a k, then pulled away.
Struggled for grip in places
The long hill was tough, but not as hard as been led to believe, certainly doesn't make the top 3 toughest parkruns, with Whinlatter to come in June.

Running 6:10 [4] 1.0 mi (6:10 / mi)

Another mile at a decent pace

Running warm up/down 15:40 [2] 2.2 mi (7:07 / mi)

Highroyds.
Heavy rain and wind made for a grim run. I think we had summer last weekend.

Running race 16:32 [5] 3.1 mi (5:20 / mi)

Redcar Coast 5k - 4th, 16.32
Was aiming to go under 16.30, but it was windy, so happy enough with that.
5.12/5.21/5.20
Felt pretty good, but just need to get the training in so the top end speed is slightly quicker.

9 AM

Running race 18:33 [5] 3.25 mi (5:42 / mi) +50m 5:27 / mi

Windy Nook parkrun - 1st, 18.33

Was thinking of trying to conserve energy for Thirsk but that went out of the window when some guy shot off.
Caught him by the 20 flight staircase on the first lap of 3, and when the first mile was 5.46, my thoughts turned to the course record which I knew was high 18's (actually 18.59). When the second mile was also 5.46 I was happy then it dawned I was nowhere near finishing the second lap, so the course was going to be signficantly long, despite the out and back round a cone supposedly there for the correct distance!
Got on with it and in the end was comfortably under, tricky little course, very east Midlandsy, and a lovely morning for it.

Running warm up/down 5:00 [2] 0.65 mi (7:42 / mi)

1 PM

Running warm up/down 11:45 [3] 1.5 mi (7:50 / mi)

2 PM

Urban Orienteering race 44:04 [5] 7.1 mi (6:12 / mi)

Thirsk Urban, 1st

Good run, happy with pace in the warm conditions, possibly could have gone harder at the start but was wary of blowing up, esp after parkrun, but was pleased with how legs went.
Had a wobble in and out of #9 and missed the southern entrance to #15 as the line wasn't cut. But a very enjoyable day of running.

Danefield
Went straight from work so only had road shoes which didn't help and led to a lengthy diversion to stay on the path to #8. Good fun though.
7 PM

Orienteering 26:00 [1] 3.0 mi (8:40 / mi) +40m 8:19 / mi

Urban Orienteering race 42:00 [5] 6.4 mi (6:34 / mi) +140m 6:09 / mi

Brighouse Urban - 1st, 42.00
Good start to the urban season, pace good despite hills and only mistake was wrong decision to #1, one or two very slight issues elsewhere but nothing to worry about. Was conscious of going back uphill towards start later in course but this wasn't as bad as feared, so perhaps could have gone quicker earlier.

Running warm up/down 8:00 [2] 1.0 mi (8:00 / mi)

Saturday Apr 14, 2018 #

8 AM

Running warm up/down 12:00 [3] 1.5 mi (8:00 / mi)

9 AM

Running race 17:08 [5] 3.1 mi (5:32 / mi) +10m 5:28 / mi

Conkers parkrun - 2nd, 17.08
A bit disappointed to be honest, though worth a decent time if on the road.
Reeled the leader in after 1 mile, but he gapped me on the hill shortly after and try as I might, could never close the gap, which stayed a constant 4-5s until 300m to go when I'd had enough upon realising sub 17 was out of the question. Won in 16:59.

10 x 400 in 70s followed by 200 rec in 70s
Missed the 6th and did 2 sets of 5
Wasn't really up for this at all but dug in and did well
Last 2 felt like a massive effort to hold a 70, so that was the right pace for me
