Running 30:00 [3] 4.5 mi (6:40 / mi)

Bizarre run, felt like I was jogging but clearly wasn't.
6 PM

Running 52:00 [3] 7.7 mi (6:45 / mi) +200m 6:15 / mi

Running 40:00 [2] 5.1 mi (7:51 / mi) +25m 7:44 / mi

Jog round Highroyds...thought my legs were alright but any hill soon found them out. Halfway through tripped and bashed knee, then 10 seconds of running later lost shoe in a bog. Lovely afternoon for a jog.

Running 18:36 [4] 3.1 mi (6:00 / mi) +50m 5:43 / mi

South Oxhey parkrun - 1st, 18.36

Lengthy research and deliberation paid off...what a lovely event
Only 33 there, nice relaxed, sunny, frosty morning, went away smiling.
Had company for the first lap, which felt remarkably easy for a 5.51 mile, then held the pace to 'win' by a minute.
2 PM

Running 17:00 [3] 2.1 mi (8:06 / mi)

Ah...they've changed the course
3 PM

Running race 48:33 [5] 7.4 mi (6:34 / mi) +90m 6:19 / mi

National Cross - 456th

Back of the pen, back of the pack, back of the bottleneck, was well down (750th?) after the first hill. Normally a steady start wouldn't be a problem, but I was a bit foolish in hindsight not to try and get higher up on the hill.
Started moving through only to hit another bottleneck where the short and long laps diverged.
Actually ran fairly well from there, was moving through until the last downhill when everyone else smelt the finish line, though knowing I was well back meant everytime I hit the limit probably didn't dig that deep, so that and my bad start probably cost 60-90s, which would have been a fair reflection I think.

All good fun, left thinking the same as last year which is if I had trained properly for XC would do alright for a chunky chap, but on the other hand the only fun races I find are the Northern and the National

Woodhouse Ridge - 1st, cleared

Good fun, good area, made one small mistake and one big one but was clear from about 20 mins was going to clear the map so didn't run too fast

9 AM

Running race 18:43 [5] 3.1 mi (6:02 / mi) +110m 5:26 / mi

Flatts Lane parkrun - 1st, 18:43

Brutal climb x 2, but not the 'toughest parkrun in the UK' as they claimed at the start.
Hard to judge how hard to run outside the climb as either well out of breath or worried about the legs but think I did OK.

Running warm up/down 12:30 [3] 1.5 mi (8:20 / mi) +60m 7:25 / mi

Running intervals 1:11:00 [3] 10.5 mi (6:46 / mi) +30m 6:42 / mi

Meant to be 8 x 800 but the first rep proved the track was too icy so then 7 x 2 mins on the outfield which I was awful at for the first 3 then something clicked for the last 4 at the same effort level, very odd. Very cold.

7 PM

Running 1:07:30 [3] 10.5 mi (6:26 / mi) +20m 6:23 / mi

4 x 6 mins (90s)

Last time was 5, but beforehand I was thinking do 4 higher quality ones, turns out everyone was doing 4 anyway, so that was convenient.
However, felt tired beforehand, probably mentally more than physically, and the first rep at 5.27 for the mile felt like hard work.
Second one, same effort, 5.22
Third one, feeling good now but not killing it, 5.14
Last one, same, OK pushed a little at end, but didn't feel like race pace, 5.07
Spent warm down pondering why I don't religiously stick to winding the pace up when that is how I get the best of myself. I guess difficulty is hitting the sweet spot of not going too easy early on, which I managed to do tonight.

12 PM

Orienteering 1:08:00 [2] 5.0 mi (13:36 / mi) +100m 12:48 / mi

Caverley Middle Distance - 15th
Was actually going alright, and was in 7th with 4 controls to go
Then got complacent, lost focus and lost where I was.
That said, map around control 29 wasn't right, though I should have done what I eventually did and used the wall corner much sooner.

Running 37:30 [3] 5.0 mi (7:30 / mi) +100m 7:04 / mi

8 AM

Running warm up/down 9:10 [2] 1.1 mi (8:20 / mi)

9 AM

Running race 16:55 [5] 3.1 mi (5:27 / mi)

Heslington parkrun - 2nd, 16.55
MB set a CR of 15.58
Would have liked to have been quicker to be honest, gave it everything, so focus really has to be on top end stuff now as that is what is lacking.

Running 31:00 [3] 4.0 mi (7:45 / mi)

Tried to run slowly but weather so grim just wanted to get back
6 PM

Running warm up/down 7:30 [3] 0.9 mi (8:20 / mi)

Urban Orienteering race 1:14:51 [4] 10.6 mi (7:04 / mi) +100m 6:52 / mi

MDOC Chapel en le Frith - 2nd
Wasn't going to do this one but a new area added to the balls up I made of Wilmslow changed my mind

Struggled to get into map to begin with, and struggled throughout to identify the paths which seemed a lighter grey than usual. But soon the route became clear, ditched the low numbers and got all 60+ which was the aim.
Wasted a lot of time at 71 as the clue said gate - wasn't on the gate but next to it, and the dot was at the path junction but the clue was on the railway basically...with my work hat on a bit unsafe that!
Gave the little map at the end a go as it had basically been put on for those in the top 5, but don't think it worked as a concept at all, as the result demonstrate there was much benefit in doing an hour and grabbing the high value answers, so the extra map should have included some high values too.
Sounds like I'm moaning but hope it isn't taken that way, more pointers for similar situations in future.
