LiveloxOoof I rolled my bad ankle just before control 7. Couldn't put weight on it for ~30 seconds, then I was able to start walking on it. Totally lost track of where I was in the process and blew past the control, only realizing when I noticed the downhill slope. Mostly walked to 8 and then took the rest of the course at a very conservative pace to avoid doing further damage. I'm glad to be starting physical therapy soon... maybe I should avoid the woods for a bit.
Other than that I had fun today! Definitely not as clean as yesterday but I enjoyed the more technical challenge. I was also happy that the flags were "hidden" better today. For some reason on the way to 3 I started navigating to 4 but I don't think I lost too much time there.
General notes after watching the Livelox routes from both days: I think I can save some time by being more intentional with my compass on legs where I simplify and am just booking it to a trail or other linear feature. I see a few legs where other runners chose better angles (sticking closer to the line) and gained some time on me. The beginning of 8 --> 9 on Day 1, and 7 --> 8 on Day 2 are examples. There were also a few routes where I chose to go straight rather than on trails and that was apparently the wrong decision. But trails are so boring!
Overall I had a great time this weekend and it was nice to see some folks who I haven't seen in years! Thank you to everyone who made this event happen, including the wonderful 50th anniversary dinner! I'm still chuckling at the "Orienteering is for Women Too" pamphlet that was among the other memorabilia :)
