A fun Middle-distance Blue course at Indian Valley. This was my first time orienteering at this venue, and it was a great experience. The terrain was a lot greener than the map seemed to indicate, with a lot of manzanita, and almost all of the course was in the forest (something quite unusual in the Bay Area). Thankfully, the Blue course avoided full-on climbing the steep ridge-like hills, which naturally meant a lot of contouring. There was also a neat sprint-like section at the end of the course that ran through the college campus in the valley.

Orange course at Indian Valley. I figured I'd run an additional course after the relatively short Middle-distance Blue. Yes, Orange had more climb than Blue. It was brutal. Then again, my 10-year old brother had just finished it, so I had no excuse. The course ranged from Yellow to advanced level, but it was great practice for navigating precisely at speed (and slogging up endless hills (-; ).

A fast-paced Bayfront Park course with relatively easy navigation but a surprising amount of route choice. I was running very quickly between controls, but it took me a while to find and collect the 6-inch tall orange flags that marked the control points. The fact that I had the William Tell Overture stuck in my head didn't help... (-;
