First day back from break and I spent it orienteering with QOC! Yay! It was nice being in the woods, not too cold, but pretty wet and slushy in places. Wheaton is (and has always been) very prickery and full of scratchy undergrowth, so it was less nice to be running through that stuff as well.
I did average on the course, not really very speedy, and in some places I made some really dumb mistakes, so I probably could have shaved ten minutes off my time in total. I think most of my problems were concentrated near the end when I started getting tired. I would get lazy and take sloppy bearings that eventually led me to trails really off my course, but then I would run the trails all the way around because I didn't want to get lost again. So on some of the later controls I took routes that were pretty out of the way, and that made me slower. And I also just got stupid about control descriptions and other things.
Anyway! It was a great course, made use of the space of the park really well, and I had a lot of fun.

Control pickup with Dad! It was fun and good training, too, but we both had really cold feet near the end :( I hadn't noticed how cold and wet the woods were until after I went out again.
