Orienteering race 52:28 [4] 4.6 km (11:24 / km) +130m 10:00 / km
shoes: Innovate 280

Day 1 of the Interscholastics! Both races were really fun, but I don't want to bother writing a huge summary of everything, so I'll just log the time and distance. Also-- meeting some of the JST juniors was really great! Everyone's so nice :)

Running 30:00 [3] 2.5 mi (12:00 / mi) +40m 11:26 / mi
shoes: Brooks Ariel

Ran for the first time in my new running shoes today. I needed really really high stability shoes, apparently because I'm very flatfooted. I got them because my arch was hurting and I needed new shoes anyway. No problems with the arch today on the run though, that's a good sign!

Note

Today was a snow day so I did some armchair orienteering.
I did the Photo-O (by Linda Kohn) I found here on attackpoint, where you have to find the locations of controls on a map using only a photo of the control, the control description, and the camera angle degree. It was pretty fun, though I was really unsure about a lot of them. I printed out the map and circled my guesses for each control.

The link to the Photo-O is here: http://www.attackpoint.org/discussionthread.jsp/me...

Strength and conditioning 10:00 [5]

I think I'm getting a little stronger. At least, I hope I am.

Rock Climbing 35:00 [3]

A lot of bouldering and two rope climbs. I was still pretty weak from yesterday, so I didn't finish any bouldering climbs--though I got pretty far on most of them (to the last hold or the second to last hold). I still felt pretty good, not like I was overstressing myself or anything.

I finished two 5.8s. One was easy and I felt very comfortable on the wall (although it may have been because it was a long, flat route) while going up. There was also a bit of climbing to the side on that climb too, so it was interesting to do--not just straight up all the time. The other one was relatively easy until the overhang bit, which I completely died on. I managed to haul myself up and over, but used a lot of help from the rope.

Rock Climbing 35:00 [4]

Mostly bouldered today but we squeezed a few rope climbs in at the end. I felt a lot stronger and more confident while bouldering today and I did three V1s that I had struggled on before with ease. I think maybe the trick to bouldering is being confident and doing the whole thing quickly before you have time to get tired or scared. I also attempted some V2s, but didn't finish any. The holds on those routes get much harder fast!

I did two rope climbs, a 5.7 and a 5.8. The 5.7 went really well and I didn't get too tired at all, which felt good after my bad climbs on Friday. The 5.8 was similarly good in the beginning and it flowed really nicely, but at the top I got pretty tired, which made me slow down a lot and miss a bunch of holds that I could have used to make my life easier. Not a bad day of climbing, all in all.

Running 20:00 [3] 2.0 mi (10:00 / mi)

I ran near the school after I had climbed... ouch, bad decision there! I was all sore and tense from rock climbing so that made the entire run really unpleasant and jarring, even though it was supposed to be an easy day. Lesson learned, I should run first, then climb.
