Note

Travel day - up early for the drive to Budapest and then flights to Frankfurt, Toronto and Winnipeg. Finally crashed at Patrick's place by about 10pm. Whew.

Orienteering race 39:50 [3]

Ran the elite course at Hungaria Cup - middle distance. Not too bad a run but not really pushing early on. Forest was tracked up in the end.

Orienteering 20:00 [3]

Beer-O at Miskolci Egyetem. Lost the pack after the first loop. Need to practice the drinking part.

Orienteering 17:00 [3]

Patrick and I ran around the downtown sprint course that the spectators did on Thursday. Nice map, had to dodge some pedestrians and some of the passageways were locked. Most of the course was accessible though.

Orienteering race 1:03:00 [4]

WOC relay - 2nd leg.
Patrick out first - mistake on the first control and no pack after that.
Started out in 27th position, with Japan. Didn't see him after the first fork. Ended up seeing runners from Belarus, Portugal, Slovenia and USA. Passed Eric after tricky control in the green area. (ran one control more-or-less together)
Handed off to Jon in 24th position. I would have been happier with a time below 60. Had a goal of being top 20 on my leg and this would have accomplished that.
Overall result was 29th for the team, behind USA. Need to do better for next year!

Trail running 30:00 [1]

Easy jog with Holger and Audun in the morning in lieu of watching the sprint qualification.

Orienteering 45:00 [1]

Jogged down to, and around the sprint model map with the rest of the team.

Event: WOC 2009

Orienteering 35:00 [3]

O-tervals with the guys on the Middle F / Relay model map. Still bothered by some sketchy mapping, mostly with regards to vegetation but also position of point features such as charcoal platforms and cliffs with respect to other point features and veg boundaries... Hopefully the relay map is better.

Orienteering 1:30:00 [2]

Jogged around the Long Q course, visiting all the controls in all the men's forkings. My impression is that it was mostly a fast running course with very high visibility for 90% of the way - evidence the short qualification gap from 1st to 15th in two of the heats. You still had to be careful and not get stung like Patrick (and me) on the downhill / sidehill legs.
