Orienteering race (Night-O speers point) 21:54 [4] 5.07 km (4:19 / km)
shoes: Mizuno Wave Hitogami 3

Night-o at speers point. I feel like the mistakes I made were really rookie errors because we just don't do night-o enough in Australia. Compass becomes very important at night because it's so easy to lose your internal sense of direction which happened to me a couple times. Lost quite a bit of time on a bit of garden bed mapped as not garden bed. Got very confused. Macey caught me then we ran together. My strategy of starting out slow and building probably isn't the best with someone starting a minute behind!

Slowed down in the complex playground area at the end because I knew sprinting through there could only lose time really. Kicked a possum who ran right in front of me in the finish shoot. I think it was fine though.

Running intervals (Tuesday Intervals) 53:00 [3] 7.9 km (6:43 / km)
shoes: Mizuno Wave Hitogami 3

Tuesday night track intervals. 12 * 300m. Felt pretty good tonight. Maybe recovery was a bit long for some of the intervals, I'll have to look into it. Pretty consistently around the 50 second mark for the 300m. Calves a little sore afterwards.

Highlight of the season tomorrow... Night-O Champs.

After looking at the maps and distances for Easter and NSW long champs I'll definitely be needing to be doing some 20kmish runs in the next couple weeks

Orienteering race (Park-O Final) 14:29 [5] *** 3.0 km (4:50 / km)
shoes: Mizuno Wave Hitogami 3

Park-O Final. Marred by the fact that I didn't double check whether a fence was crossable before crossing it. Control circle covered one of the 2 fence markings. Should have read the map more thoroughly.

Got super confused by control #1 and a certain bit of wall that was crossable which felt like it shouldn't have been. Plus the 1:2000 scale took a bit of getting used to. One of the many aspects of my orienteering that needs huge areas of improvement is quickly reading buildings and underpasses and stairs. Felt like I ran alright elsewhere I guess however the calves didn't let me get through the course without having a bitch about it.

Currently trying to figure out issues with garmin not letting me upload GPS files from my watch, getting an error saying "could not sync with garmin connect.." no idea why my files have to go online before I can access them on my computer..

Orienteering (Heart-Rate Hills) 35:00 [3] **** 3.5 km (10:00 / km)
shoes: Inov8 TerraClaw 250

Middle distance training at heart rate hills. I struggled getting up the hills and got super frustrated by planning a route through what was yellow on the map slowing me to a slow walk in the power lines and a patch of light green I decided to run through which also ended up being super thick. Physically and mentally not in it today so I cut it short before the really hilly last few controls.

I think I'm definitely a little over-trained and suffering from running training load that I'm just not used to at the moment. Going to take a very easy week next week to recover a bit.

Running warm up/down 25:00 [3] 3.5 km (7:09 / km)

Orienteering (HunterValleyChamps Rerun) 51:36 [4] **** 6.53 km (7:54 / km)
shoes: Inov8 TerraClaw 250

well I decided against the double rest day and went out to Gretley for a rerun of the 2013 Hunter Valley Champs. Didn't have the right version of the map which included the little bit to the north west where the event started and finished so I don't have the entire distance. I really struggled with the heat out there today and my calves were screaming at me again. A familiar feeling which I had thought about 2 weeks ago had gone away. Alas it is back. I might book someone to get it tested.

Felt super messy out there today as I was physically struggling and that meant I wasn't checking the map frequently enough and wasn't checking compass frequently either. Can't get GPS track to go onto my computer for some reason :/

Note
(rest day)

Lower calves and knees felt pretty average the last few days so I want to give them a couple days to rest and recover.
